I have no problem with this if someone literally just enjoys listening to music constantly (even if it's nothing but top 40 stuff). I know people who listen to more music than I do but never learnt how to write it.
I find it to be a fucking joke though when they try to critique music without even knowing what's going on in it.

I like films and books yet I've never directed or wrote one of those.. but I'd like to think I have some basic understanding of what goes into it. I do play an instrument but I'd say a good grasp of music theory is more important to my understanding of music than being able to play some Bach on the piano. Basically what >>64355780 says.
