I never really noticed just how much Swans have lightened up...almost polar opposites. 80's Swans was fucking dark and oppressive; kinda murder-y. Seer-Kind-era Swans is still loud and intense, but it's like a transcendental experience more than a pressing one.

Really? In 2014 I noticed that Swans finally made a critically acclaimed album and decided to listen to it. I've read all kinds of tales that early Swans made early Sonic Youth sound like Carpenters. One look at Michael Gira's face confirmed that for me. This was the face of a man who hated life—not just his life, all life, especially yours.
So I download the record and… hear some kind of GYBE-style stuff. I mean, it doesn't mean it's bad, but that's totally not what I wanted.
