I genuinely like Hold Up (despite the airhorn's best effort to absolutely ruin the song). I sometimes visited an uncle that played a bunch of Caribbean surf rock and it was always a fun time. Hold Up in particular reminds of that, admittedly a more half-baked and "modern" version of it, but still, it's alright
Rest of the album is pretty much nothing to write home about though. Bunch of sounds and songs that aren't developed fully for the sake of eclecticism or songs that are so basic to the point of being practically worthless. It's essentially a mess, but due to its commercial nature, it's doesn't even have the gall to be an interesting or dense mess. It's a spread of grey matter trying to convince you otherwise through its flock of collaborators and styles.

I think the music is some of Jacques' most well-orchestrated. I think it has his most memorable melodies and it probably fits his text moreso than his other albums in my opinion.

i guess maybe the melodies were lost on me because it was just way too heavy the style. it felt to me like listening to the score of a particularly boisterous musical that just wouldn't let up. musical scores can be great, but they have to be varied, otherwise it's just way way way too potent and off-putting. i just thought that album lacked any drama besides the beginning and the very end.
