Does anyone else make music but keep it secret from their family or friends?
Literally the only people that I share my music with are the anons in the soundcloud threads on /mu/.

I have been making music for a few years as a solo thing. Had some stuff up on soundcloud. But I'm taking things in a new direction these days. I put all my SC stuff on private, and haven't shown anyone my more recent projects. I like the idea of keeping it a secret until the whole EP is done and mixed, as opposed to getting opinions from friends as I go.

My family aren't interested in any music i've made in the past whatsoever, it was just a nuisance to them all so i just deleted it all eventually. I put it on Soundcloud and Bandcamp but no-one really bothered with it on there either so it got wiped.

I sorta did once. Only one friend of mine was aware of my musical ventures and actually played one of my songs on one of the parties he was at. A girl that didn't like me liked the actual song (even though it was total shit desu) and was mighty surprised when my friend told her I made it.
Even funnier how nice she became to me all of the sudden. Feels like some sort of a weird power I'm afraid to abuse. I don't want to be "that guy".
Which is why I always preferred internet anons. No risk with anything if the song is shit.

It's just... I've been bedroom producing for some time now, and haven't really progressed that much to be honest. Mostly because I make music purely hobbyistically and don't really commit that much time to it since my day is usually occupied with loads of other shit. And to add to that, I feel like the second I start doing this for others, will be the second I stop enjoying it.
Anyway, I'm just gonna try to get the mixing and master it to top notch sound before uploading anything.

I do share it here first and foremost. /mu/ is actually my main place for getting some criticism on the track. Problem is, there's so many other people that I hardly get any plays. And honestly I just want to share my work. Hard to explain why, but I enjoy a good word about it. I make my tracks downloadable free of charge anyway. Anyone can use them how they see fit.
