partway through last year I quit checking pitchfork. I've read a handful of reviews like kanye and grimes though and read the year end lists. Also try to avoid hearing about ratings for albums if I can.
It feels pretty good not to know their ratings when I listen to most new music and not feel like it dictates my taste. Also it's kinda obvious when tons of my friends only talk or bother to listen to bnms. I have friends who like animal collective a lot but have yet to listen to Painting With
So yeah that sounds super dumb but whatever. If u are having fun with pitchfork then don't worry abt it.

I mean if someone takes them seriously they're still getting a fairly decent selection of music, most people follow pitchfork not because of the quality of their reviews, but on the quality of their curation, which isn't amazing by any standard, but most of what they give BNM is usually pretty good to acceptable
