I don't know anything about private trackers. I want to be able to download lots and lots of FLAC albums and what.cd seems like the best choice. But I don't own anything particularly rare or valuable enough to be able to upload it to what.cd so what are you supposed to do?

Don't upload anything?

A combination of rutracker and soulseek (while checking for transcodes) is really all you need, although what.cd isn't bad.

You'll just have to seed the majority of what you download for your ratio.

this is a stupid fucking thread that makes me question in what

How do you check for transcodes? Are they an issue if you only download flac's and convert to 320?

private trackers are just not worth it at the end of the day. you think your poor ass is getting things for free but in reality your paying it up the ass in other ways.

It's the other way around actually.
>>muh 7 proxies
Most private trackers ban proxies. There's no reason to use one.

Basically people will have albums downloaded that are in 320CBR or even FLAC that have frequency cutoffs that match the compression of 192CBR or lower, which is fucking scummy and pointless.

Example: I downloaded this relatively obscure album in 320, but the frequency cutoff of the compression on it matches a much lower bitrate. If it was truly 320 then the spectrogram would go up to 22KHz.

You can view a spectrogram of an audio file in Audacity or even other standalone programs, so it's a simple matter of checking.

OK, thanks. But how do you interpret these spectrographs? How can you tell what the frequency cutoff is, and how do you know how that corresponds to bitrate? What would this one be for example. Thanks for your help fammo

Music won't always reach the maximum frequencies of the corresponding level of compression, as you can see by the gaps on that spectrogram.

However, we can see by that stretch in the last 2/3s of the file that the music is being cutoff at 22KHz, which is 320CBR. That's a well encoded MP3 that isn't a transcode, so I wouldn't worry.

128kbps - 16KHz
192kbps - 18KHz or so
320kbps - 22KHz
FLAC/ALAC/other lossless - stretches above 22KHz

Good to know, thank you!
