ToTT: What are your favorite releases of 2015/2016?
Friendly reminder that a new VW Essentials Guide is being built and I could use your recommendations and deep cuts.
I haven't heard new Vaporwave since 2013. I'm a big fan of the ambient influenced classic style like Internet Club. I absolutely hate future funk. Any recommendations?
Thank you for still caring about VW even though this board considers it to be a huge meme. I can't wait to see the new essentials guide
>>64316124
People released a lot of uninspired crap that saturated the genre, but vaporwave had (still has) huge potential imo.
>>64315994
Make sure you check the Ultra Guide, I can't upload it right now coz I'm on mobile but you'll find it on vaporwaveultra.tumblr.com
>>64316124
Anytime anon, if you have certain albums you'd like to see featured on it feel free to post them all here.
>>64315994
getting back into vaporwave after ignoring it for a year or more is really tough
make sure you listen to i'll try living like this
I fucking love vaporwave
The problem with all the essential guides after this one >>64315994 is that they put too many albums that are shit and not worth listening to and too many albums in general. There should be less than 40 albums on the essential chart, nobody is going to check out 100+ albums on a chart.
Also this album should definitely be on there
Also don't put floral shoppe, blank banshee, macross, or 2814 on it either. Too many charts have them already. Plus they aren't very good
>>64316339
>floral shoppe
>not very good
D:
>>64316339
nice opinions hombre
>>64316253
Not really, I think it's great because if you ignore the surge of new amateurish releases you'll find that vaporwave has evolved and the originality factor has increased a lot...
Off the top of my head you should check "I'll Try Living Like This", "Post-Internet", "Birth Of A New Day", "Executive Towers" (OP pic) and "Angel".
>>64316339
>vaporwaveultra.tumblr.com
Floral shoppe isn't the greatest vaporwave album but it inspired a lot of people who made better shit. So the album has foundation and purpose in the genre.
>>64316371
>>64316444
Every Vektroid related project before and after floral shoppe is superior. You can't deny this.
>>64316395
nice contribution faggot
>>64316339
The new one will be exactly 100 albums, but you can ignore the parodies and hardvapour sections and you'll have a smaller one.
2814 is a must, I'm only putting in new releases so none of the other ones you mentioned will be in... There's a new 2814 album in the works though so if that was better than BoaND I'll just put that.
>>64316487
namefagging serves no purpose in the context of this thread
do you even sage lmao
>>64316487
i absolutely can deny this

vaporwave should be high intense action packed michael bay films
btw, p, where do you find obscure good vaporwave besides sifting through garbage on bandcamp
>>64316658
suit yourself
Droping this again, fellas!
>>64316660
rym and discogs, but mainly bandcamp. I haven't done it recently though as it can be tiresome.
>>64316513
yeah this chart sounds shit already you should separate old and new albums, and leave out the meme shit. Also don't put multiple releases by the same label if it's not necessary. (dream catalogue)
>>64316553
and you would be wrong. the album's first four tracks are interesting but after that it's not even worth listening to. The album is front loaded, and the second half doesn't keep up with the originality and choppiness the first four tracks did.
It's popularity mostly stems from the meme cover art.
>>64316875
oh god, this is fucking hilarious.
Who are some good wholesome fascist Vaporwave artists for me to support and listen to, /vwg/?
>>64316957
the sound of a white mans tears slowly dripping onto a tin roof
>>64316660
Mostly asking on /r/Vaporwave (I have a sticky there, check it out if you're interested to know more), but otherwise I get lost on BandCamp... What I do is find an album I like and click on one of its random supporters, then sift through their BC collection and click on albums with interesting cover art. Half the time I find good stuff.

Here's the link to the article btw:

No meme shit, only the "essential" albums. And I've already set some criteria to make sure no one artist or label dominates the chart.. Check the thread on /r/vaporwave if you want to see the criteria I set.
And no, no old releases will make it through. Everything on the Ultra guide is not eligible.
Is PZA the most underrated vaportrap artist?

I remember you, you made almost the exact same post on 8/mu/... I added the albums you suggested but I'm yet to listen to them, I only listened to Capital Customer.
>>64317262
Yep that was, me. You should really get around to checking those albums out.
This is the best release I have heard this year. The first track is an absolute masterpiece.
>>64316957
>Who are some good wholesome fascist Vaporwave artists
None.

Can this be considered vaporwave or is it just vaporwave influenced?
>>64316444
trips confirmed
>>64316487
yes I can
>>64316513
Don't put hardmeme or memetrap in there for fucks sake. It's just people making attention grabbing TOTALLYWEIRDGUYZ shit while jumping on a bandwagon
hey /mu/ I'm trying to get into vaporwave and I've listened to the essential vaporwave albums like Floral Shoppe, Eccojams, Blank Banshee, etc but all of them only have a couple of tracks that I enjoy. are there any albums that are consistently good like this one?
https://midwestcollective.bandcamp.com/album/odyssey
>>64319580
Not hearing the vaporwave here but you might like this
https://firstimpressions1.bandcamp.com/album/easier-in-dreams-ep
>>64319580
I'll Try Living Like This is an enjoyable listen for me.
Birth of a New Day also is very strong for the first few tracks but overall pretty good. Both albums should be essential.
>>64319650
yea I guess what I posted is more chillwave than vaporwave
this is good thank you
>>64319685
will listen. thanks
Does Com Truise count as vapourwave?
>>64321205
>Com Truise
yes
>>64321576
but not by technique , but by sound
tfw i got over 50 (you)s n a /mu/ thread...
>>64319377
>>64319299 (checked)
It's tagged vaporwave on the BC page.
>>64322063
That doesn't mean anything
>>64319399
Vaportrap has been a part of VW since day one. I understand your concern about Hardmeme and I know that it's not everyone's cup of tea but some people are into it man.
>>64319580
Check the Ultra Guide that I mentioned above, and listen to albums from there.
>>64322113
Most vaporwave albums are tagged 'vaporwave' on BandCamp, what is your problem?
>>64322156
Vaportrap was always fucking stupid. Trap and vapowaves are opposites. Putting trap beats on vaporwave completely defeates the point.
>>64319299
just saw u on r/vaporwave :^)
>>64319299
It sounds like Giant Claws stuff and hes definitely vaporwave.
>>64322213
>defeats the point
And what is that exactly?
>>64322264
Just saw it as well, maybe a self-shill?
>>64322425
Vaporwave is background music, usually the sort of shit you would hear in an old shopping centre or computer advert.
Meanwhile trap is the latest modern trend which is made to be as in your face as fucking possible.
>>64322425
I personally don't think Trap music is a good vehicle for something as textural as vapor wave. All the trap element does is make it even easier for producers to lazily chop and screw a sample and loop it for 2 minutes, in a genre which is already rife with lazy productions.
does anyone have a decent sized version of this meme

>>64322772
>background music
What the fuck? What have you been listening to?.. Sure, SOME releases are into the Muzak/Soft Music field but otherwise vaporwave is pretty much in your face. The genre is centered around producing an atmosphere or telling a story through music, which definitely requires attention. And nowadays only few releases focus on nostalgia anyway, what's apparent now are dystopian themes and retrofuturism.
I don't see why trap influences cannot be in vaporwave. If the themes are there and the key musical elements like sampling and chopping+screwing then why can't it be considered vaporwave? Trap being "new" meeting "old" music is covered under retrofuturism.
I'm legit curious to know what you've heard to make you think of VW as background music.
>>64322992
thanks
>>64323220
go piss your cock fuckboy
>>64323294
>I'm legit curious to know what you've heard to make you think of VW as background music.
The fuck are you on about? Why do you think it's often described as elevator music so much?
>>64323357
That description was applicable in like 2012 or 2013. If you've heard anything from after that you'd have seen that this is no longer the case, at least with all the major releases.
>>64323339
