What are the weirdest genres you've seen? Not joke genres but stuff that is unironically listened to on a regular basis. I've been trying to get into fartwave but it seems legitimately bad and difficult to listen to.

That genre created by /mu/ called tonefield, tonal field or whateaver
the sub-genre where they got the painting genre colorfield painting characteristics, and used logic and etc.. (basically autism) to convert them to musical characteristics and made songs that used all those characteristics
The result is basically
1-Song is mono.
2-Song start/continue with a tone or silence.
3-They have at least 1 second, tone must have same volume, frequency and waveform during its entire length.
4-End song (only if song is not 100 silent) or go back to 2

Drone can really be pleasant to listen to, I've already met some who had such titles in their library. It's neither than uncommon nor obscure, I can enjoy a Earth track's subtle variations.

I don't know how, but I've been in probably a level below the lowest on that chart. I sit around and listen to pure ambience at times, sometimes harsh ambient drone industrial, screeching sounds with barely rhythmic qualities. At times, I mistake the noises my harddrive makes for a song I may have listened to starting to play
