there's a bar where a ton of small metal acts play and a cozy little jazz place both within walking distance of my house, so I'm satisfied

Christian emo and Christian rap. No joke.

Denton, TX reporting with whatever weird shit is happening around here. Some decent psych-pop acts, some pretentious indie bands, and shoegazers.

>>64301425
>being this pleb
>>
Ever heard of this new underground genre called jazz?
>>
there's a local mac demarco rip off band
>>
>>64301482
This kinda shit is common for small towns in the southeastern United States. People here unironically listen to linkin park and eminem too.
>>
>>64300314
Garbage. It ranges from twee indie folk to brainless Christian music.
>>
>>64301482
>Denton, TX reporting with whatever weird shit is happening around here.
the new Snarky Puppy is fucking insane but apparently its almost all previously released material from other musicians with snarky puppy just joining them and re-recording it. Otherwise it'd be a very strong contender for aoty right now.
>>
>>64300314
There is an alright dream pop project going on there. The rest are tasteless rock babbys.
>>
This is as local as it gets

>>
>>64301614

>>
>Connecticut

Terrible. Toad's Place used to be cool, but it's all memerap nowadays because of fucking Yale. I fucking hate Yale so much. Bunch of obnoxious rich hipsters who ruin everything they flock to.

You have to go to MA or NY to see anything half decent, as all the local bands go there to avoid FUCKING YALIES.

hold onto your butts

Culcha Vulcha is the upcoming eleventh album by American jazz fusion group Snarky Puppy, set to be released on April 29, 2016. The album includes performances by a number of musicians loosely associated with the band and called "the Senpai".[1] The band's first purely studio album in eight years, it was recorded at the Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas, near El Paso.[2][3]

and apparently at most right they're splitting members between denton and brooklyn if not entirely based there now but I coulda swore during sxsw they listed themselves from denton

>>64300314
Lots of emo and grunge revival going around where I live. Plus a few shoegaze-ish bands. Pretty good I guess.
>>
How do you find a local music scene? I've always been interested in looking into some local artists but never really knew where to look at all.
>>
>>64300314
rockist bullshit
>>
Hardcore, noise rock, punk stuff. you have to pick the right venue though otherwise it's all local metalcore/death core bands
>>
>>64300314

Boring instrumental post rock that even 30 years ago would have been boring.

Shit attempts at shoegaze that memed his way into coachella thanks to nepotism.

Some shit to decent noise bands that seem to share the same members or at least I think so.

Some lelworthy pop punk bands; one musician actually writes some interesting stuff but hasn't recorded anything.

High quality mexican buttrock.

Good norteño, cringeworthy mashups with electronica.

Cringeworthy death metal, all Death/Sepultura clones.

Tribute bands.

And some stuff I dig:

I actually just learned that Austin has an official Carrie Rodriguez day. This was my introduction to her and I was pretty blown away but I don't know about *that* blown away.

I think those are actually the only records I've got so far this year unless I'm forgetting something.

Here are two artists from my city who I think are great.

Daniel Caesar:
https://soundcloud.com/danielcaesar/streetcar

River Tiber:
https://soundcloud.com/rivertiber/no-talk

There's a lot of talent coming out of Toronto, mainly hip hop, but these two steer away from that genre and provide a unique sound compared to the rest. If you want to know some of the hip hop artists just let me know.

yeah toronto sucks bruh
>>
Fucking awful, but I guess it's to be expected when like the only 2 notable acts from my town are cheap trick and some metal band called the color morale.
>>
>>64304347
I highly doubt that the current trend only perpetuated by the 18-32 age group are the only music acts in a city of 2.3 million.

In fact, I know they aren't, because I have that app that collates Soundclouds with local shows, and I hear a variety of genres that are actively making the bar and stage cycles. I'm just, again, too lazy to go out.

From wiki
> There is no identifiable Christian Hip Hop market, as the majority of Christian Hip Hop has been underground, or marketed towards the mainstream Christian music scene.
