A lot of fun. Though, I think it's still the weakest of the plunderphonics trio.

Donuts
Horrible desu. Everyone praises him but I personally think his work is trash. Yes, Ive listened to donuts and his other "good" works. Just dont find him to be a talented artist

all i'm really aware of is this, Shadow, Madlib, John Oswald, Avalanches and turntabilism/ minor hip hop sampling

Its okay, Im sure youre a great guy irl
It's a total work of art. Raw expression, transmitted mostly through 45s.

Endtroducing isn't good. I can appreciate the work that went into it, but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to take out of it. It's like soft serve ice cream in a bowl.
Since I Left You is an incredible record, but again, it's about workmanship. At it's absolute best, it's terrifically clever and a blast to hear, but it's no Donuts.
Even though it's well-liked, Donuts deserves reappraisal. It's art without pretension, it's someones entire life and slow drip into death while their life flashes intermittently before their eyes. It's a goldmine of great beats that are so layered you notice new sounds in every listen.
I might make the argument that almost anything of art, but if we take art to mean expression--or the expression of a thought, or a person--than Donuts is nearly damn hard to beat.
Donuts is an extension of who Jay Dee is as a person. It's not a record, it's a beat tape. It's not plunderphonics, it's hip hop. It's soul.
