I don't know much about the others you quoted, but you're way off about John Darnielle and Nick Drake. It's well-documented that Nick Drake had depression, and generally had trouble interacting socially. Poor bastard probably fell deeper every time one of his albums failed to sell well. (which was all three of them, in his time, to be fair)
And Darnielle's been through a lot of shit, man. Yes, his parents divorced. But his stepfather abused him pretty badly, and he'd been in and out of drug habits before he started making music. Hell, 'The Sunset Tree' is practically an autobiography, and 'We Shall All Be Healed' might as well be a memoir of his druggie days.
