>mfw I realized "post-punk" isn't actually a genre but is instead a term coined by the British music press around 1979-1981 when the UK started generating bands that sounded like Talking Heads (American), Patti Smith (American), and Television (American) instead of The Ramones (American) all of whom were just called "punk" by the American music press from 1975-1978
Well, yeah.
'Post-punk' contains a lot of styles. But people sometimes use it as shorthand for one of its more skronky, jerky, brittle iterations.
That's how a genre's name is born you moron
Or do you think that the bands thought "Oh lets make a thing called 'post-punk'" and only then started to make music?

But the point is that 'post-punk' isn't a coherent genre, it's a catch all for a lot of things from a certain era that followed after the possibilities suggested in punk and new wave, and then what dialectically proceeded from there for a bit
>>64290815
yeah, just like other genre names
>>64290815
that's what a genre is, fucky

genres are more closed. 'post-punk' as an umbrella term contains several genres that are otherwise very defined against each other
you stupid faggots :D
Well yeah, both U2 and This Heat were considered post-punk.

Seriously just stop worrying about that shit. It's outdated information
the faster we can stop this shit. the more people will stop limiting their creative

>genres are more closed
Not when they're created, it takes time.

deeply satanic post

it never solidified into one genre though, everything that came out of it were their own distinct entity.
one could argue that Gang of Four and Scritti Politti etc were more definitive post-punk for a lack of another genre name, but a lot of post-punk-linked stuff came after them even.
>tfw alternative punk/rock in general died out
>nothing better took its place
What do kids who wear black and aren't metalheads even do anymore?
