Album cover looks pretty lazy for starters
>>
>>64271428
No matter how much effort was put into the album cover, it's still pretty good.

Notice the picture is taken on the opposite side of the fence as the rest of the people, it's pretty fitting for the album

>The image for Lonerism was personally taken by Parker with a Diana F camera and edited by Podhajsky; it features an exterior gate of the Luxembourg Garden in Paris, France. This image ties into the themes of isolation of Lonerism with the gate separating the viewer from the people in the Gardens.[24] The red splotch in the corner of the image was actually an error caused by Parker incorrectly winding the film.[14] The meaning behind the image was also lost on some people, which Parker went into detail and "I didn't know whether people were going to get what the picture was getting at. Which was great in the end because I love that people can look at that picture and just see a picture of some people and think, "What's the big deal?", and some people can see the meaning; the separation of the person looking through the fence."[14]

Name one thing that is shitty about it. Go ahead, I dare ya. Protip: You can't.
>>

Some idiot keeps spamming meaningless threads about it, and claiming it's the best ever.

It's pretty fucking awesome, but it's not the best ever. It's not even the best since 2010.

it draws hatred when retards constantly tout it as some psychedelic masterpiece when it's laughably trite compared to any other agreed-upon "great" psych albums

TAME Impala is a boring as fuck media product for people who buy records at Urban Outfitters. "Elephant" is the most laughably tepid psychedelia I've ever heard.

>"Elephant" is the most laughably tepid psychedelia I've ever heard.
It's definitely their worst song, but I'm not sure how that makes them bad as a band.

Their first album is better, but this is pretty good, definitely better than Currents.

the falsely hard-rocking Elephant (which is to Tame Impala what Come Together was to the Beatles).

i should have used "best" rather than "most interesting". the bassline works well with the layered harmonies. be above it is boring af, apocalypse dreams does use more techniques but it's nearly double the length and "feels" is still the stronger song note for note

plen af

Because it's a mediocre at best album for people who are abosolutely ignorant of psychedelic and progressive rock music. I can see how someone with with less than 150 listened albums could be impressed by it, but the fact that it is sometimes praised on a music board baffles me. Not that I'm not familiar with both the lack of taste and lack of knowledge of this board lately, but it really never ceases to amaze me.

The board died when elitism died.
>>
i don't hate it but it's completely unremarkable. i just hate that every time they're brought up here, retards sing insanely exaggerated and ignorant praise for them like this.

all this shit about it being the best album ever and whatnot. it's just a run of the mill psych pop album.
>>
this is the best album of all time. if recording technology had existed throughout the entirety of human history, this would still be the best album of all time. If higher dimensional beings recorded the sound of angels singing hymns to the glory of the Divine, this would still be the best album of all time.
>>
>>64271549

wrong

generation defining album
>>
>>64271427
i actually like lonerism but holy fuck, currents was utter shit.
>>
>>64273749
>generation defining album
maybe if we're talking about the generation of the summer of love. you're just glamorizing the 60s. if you seriously think this sound is relevant at all today, then you need to listen to more music. It's just more stale revivalism.

the only cultural significance it has is the culture of capitalizing off a corporately created "subculture"
>>
>>64274001
>if you seriously think this sound is relevant at all today, then you need to listen to more music. It's just more stale revivalism.
Lonerism sounds completely contemporary though. every great artist just improves upon the last generations masters, and its not revivalist at all, because the main inspiration was a wizard a true star and that was when the summer of love phenomena was pretty much dead and gone in the mid 70s
>>
>>64274001
yeah this totally sounds like something that would have come from the 60s... oh wait no its not because its more forward thinking and psych than anything the beatles or any other psych band of that era wishes they couldve done
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLsCrysrvuQ
>>
>>64274110
>Lonerism sounds completely contemporary though
only because of modern recording techniques and quirky digital effects. TMT put it perfectly when they said it's like taking a photo through a fake instagram filter to make it seem more interesting than it is. compositionally, it's just psych pop. I'll admit that it's well produced, but the quality of the recording shouldn't be enough to warrant all the praise that it's receiving here
>>
>>64274324
its not just well produced but is an intelligent album with thought put into it

yes, its pop, but that doesnt mean it cant push boundaries and make people think

for example at the end of the album 'suns coming up' the singer talks about how he cant get to sleep because hes thinking about his past failed relationship, how he wants to turn his life around, and then the album opens with be above it, saying to shake off people's expectations of you, and follows with endors toi, which translate to "fall asleep"

the album is much like ok computer, not just because of the sequencer or synths and rock format but because the album is a loop, like ok computer ending with the tourist, telling people to slow down, but opening with airbag, saying it saved his life and reinvigorated his sense of purpose
>>
>>64274167
>more forward thinking and psych than anything the beatles or any other psych band of that era wishes they couldve done
baka
>>
>>64274628
you're the idiot if you dont see how much better endors toi is compared to pink floyd's breathe

just give up on liking music
>>
>>64274625
>going on about all this conceptual drivel
stop being so pretentious. if you look at lonerism objectively, it's just polished pop rock. You can save your subjective personal interpretations for a time when you're not trying to claim the album's objective merit.
>>
>>64274856
im not seeing any criticisms here

most of the worlds universally acclaimed records are polished pop

i'm not trying to criticize it. i already said i think it's a mediocre album. i'm just trying to point out that you've based a huge objective claim on weak-ass conceptual interpretations that don't even have anything to do with the music.
just try saying that it's your favorite album instead next time.
>>
>>64275295
music is objective. all great art can be traced back to its roots. tame impala is no different

objectively tame impala is the best band of all time. (Right now)

>>64275723
i'm tempted to go full ad hominem here, but instead i'm just gonna stop arguing with you. have a nice evening
