I can see how CD or LR or even Yeezus are more enjoyable, but 808 is his brilliant piece.
808s definitely most influential album of his. without it you dont get emo type rap aka Drake or Weeknd

I see it the same way. I don't put this album in my playlist, nor do I listen to it as often as other Ye albums, but I still think it's his best. It isn't an enjoyable album. It's cold dark and depressing, but I appreciate it for it's beauty and emotional rawness. It's like his equivalent of Bowie's Blackstar. The situation that spawned this album cannot be replicated.
This and MBDTF are both 10/10 but MBDTF is on a bigger scale obviously. Valid opinion to prefer 808s though.

I've listened to mbdtf like 150+ times now and I wouldn't mind listening to it again, I think its great. That said, I do enjoy 808s quite a bit, it's so fucking dark and pulls things out of me I never knew I even had in me.

Fact is the songs are worse on 808s than on any of his other albums. This is coming from a huge Kanye fan. Understand its appeal and why it's important, but song for song it's by far his weakest.

It will always be the black sheep of his discography, basically because many people can't fathom an artist radically changing their sound. While Yeezus might get this title now, I think 808 is the most genuine Kanye album.

The scales of MBDTF are the thing that ruined it... I mean, this album has so many beautiful moments, but then the songs have to go for 3-5 minutes too long without developing at all because Kanye had to fit more half-assed celebrity verses in them. It's such a bloated album, if Kanye wanted to make maximalistic hip hop he had to introduce something to the music to make it work with long tracks.
