Hey everyone, older thread is dying, so it's time to make a new one. To compromise for the chart that was made that pissed off a lot of people, I'm going to start up a database.

So when I was little, the YuGiOh anime was being aired and I watched a few episodes at around that time. I didn't really watch it that much, but I got familiar enough with it to remember some of the names of the characters.

Fast forward 11 years. When I was going through stuff on my old computer that I used during the time, I had this fake band I called "The EZ from Ekzodia". Idk how I got that, but I paid tribute to myself 11 years ago and decided to roll with it and call the unfinished album at the time "Ekzodia".

Fast forward a month or two. I put it on Bandcamp. I start posting it in these threads. Two weeks after it's released, someone asks me why I named my album after a YuGiOh card. I google the album name, and sure enough, it's a card from YuGiOh. I indirectly and accidentally named the album after The Forbidden One. And then I remembered when I watched it and fucking laughed at myself.

It's not named after the card directly, but it's named to pay tribute to my miniature self from 11 years ago.

I understand that, I sort of feel the same way because I don't want people to be tired of one song before they even get to hear the rest. I guess that's just the crappy part of the promo process though.

This new album is a lot more straightforward than the last one. All of the songs are done in a similar vain to the song "Glass Eye" or what you can find on my SC page - acoustic guitar arrangements and vocals. Not quite as out there in terms of song structure or instrumentation, and a little easier to get into for casual listeners. Some people on here probably hate the sound of that but on the whole the new stuff still generally has the same feel as the old stuff, just stripped down.

By the way, I don't think I've ever listened to your project. I'm definitely gonna check out your new album and give you some feedback.

>>64249142
Can I just say that I had no idea that Polysemy (don't know if this is you posting or not) had a new album out on this label until VHSex/Pool Parties pointed out to me that this was your thing. I need to check it out and some of the other stuff that's on here.

That's a cute story. I loved the first season as a kid, I'd wake up every Saturday morning to watch it so I was initially drawn to it for that but I'm definitely sticking around for the music purely now.

If you're ever around Wilmington in May, I'm playing a show there, would be awesome to see you there because I really dig the material you've put out so far but then again I don't know how far away those cities are from each other.

>>64249675
I actually think it'll resonate with a lot of people by the sound of it. I wasn't a big fan of Sufjan's last album but it ended up being one of the highest rated of last year so anything's up for grabs. Thanks for that gesture btw, I hope you like it but just the idea of you listening to it is good enough.

I think it would be easy to compare my new stuff to Sufjan's newest album, he's definitely a big influence even though a lot of what I'm releasing now was written before that album came out. Hopefully you still like it though haha.

As for your album - wow. This is the best thing I've heard from the Bandcamp thread since Birch Barks, my reigning favorite artist from these threads ever. Not even kidding dude. Luma just got me going with its energetic lo-fi sound, and the vocals and vocal melodies are just perfect. From Luma I listened to everything up to "The Dragon" and there were several times where I just got chills down my spine. Love the Biblical subject matter too. Almost everything about it is just beautiful.

I have just one complaint though since typing that, and as weird as it sounds to be this demanding I really really really think you should fix this and reupload ASAP: the volume for the first track really needs to be turned down. I don't mind noise tracks themselves but it's just way way louder than everything else, and listening through headphones I literally had to turn it way down when I went back to it. Sort of the same deal for the later part of The Dragon (which I have sort of listened to since typing this) but even that isn't nearly as loud. Other than that I'm HUGE on this. It's insanely enjoyable

New Larksburg album as a 4 piece should be out in May look out for that, we recorded it over the summer in 2015. It's much different than what's on the split, and different than anything before the split just like everything sounds different from each other for Larksburg.

There's another Larksburg album that's on the way that Cody and I recorded most of in January that'll be finished by the summer i don't know when it will be out.

On top of that, I'm recording demos for the next NEXT Larksburg album.

digging the atmosphere here. vocals suit the music nicely. would like to hear more vocal range but i get that it's a stylistic choice. beat sounds cool on "back home"

Thanks a bunch bro! It took me a couple years to get to a place where I can make stuff like this, just keep at it. After a while it comes naturally. You could do it faster then me too, I was kinda on and off with the music work. Now Im full in. I like this a lot! Reminds me of the Burger shows down in SoCal in peoples' garages

The drummer is really great, especially. This whole album makes me want to take mushrooms on a warm night by a lake

In my brothers old room.
About a 1000 dollars for recording stuff (SM57,58, Steinberg UR44 and stands and cables) + headphones, stereo, computer and instruments.
It's just a dream but I don't have any other solid plan at the moment.

it was my first show and it was at a veteran bar so they were expecting blues so they kept telling us to turn it down

My music: >>64265429

1. I am 24.

2. I have self produced for many years.

3. Probably $70,000 (piano, drums, etc all of it)

4. Music is my full time job. I compose and teach music theory privately. Been doing composition as a job for about 4 years. Just got a degree in composition. I've also toured a lot in various ensembles/countries.

Comparing your music to Sufjan? Something tells me you're a bit too confident.

at home through my phone, if not straight from my laptop
>3. How expensive is all your gear (all together)?
just a bit over $200, but a lot of things were gifts
>4. Do you plan on making a "career" from music or will it just remain a side-project as you find a stable job etc?
hopefully i could afford to do both honestly

Everyone here is too confident they calling their music experimental alternative but it sounds like coldplay with shittier lyrics and that's ok.
>>
realistically is it too late to begin recording music at the age of 24 if the last time you played guitar (mainly learning chords etc) was when you were 12 - 14 years old?

I keep feeling a strong urge to write songs (I feel I'm strong on lyrics) but I'm afraid I'm just panicking due to getting older or something. I'd really like to make some music similar to Elliott Smith, Jason Molina, Crywank, Christopher Owens, Patron Saint of Bridge Burners etc but I haven't played guitar in so long and can't now since I'm renting a tiny room with thin walls and other people in the next room.

You're a blessing to these threads with how you're replying to everyone.
>>
>>64267357
If you have strong songwriting and lyrics then people will forgive simple/bad guitar. Realistically no one from these threads are gonna make it.
>>
>>64267357
Sufjan was in his late twenties before he made a good album, but he's also a musical genius.

Chris Owens didn't start girls until he was in his 30's and he kinda sucks at guitar, but again, he had something special going on in his head and stars aligned right and he was able to make an amazing album with very little experience under his belt (and a LOT of help from his friends)

so either be a savant, get heavily involved in a trendy music scene, win the lottery and hire producers, or yes, it's too late.
>>
>>64267357
sufjan didn't achieve critical acclaim until he was in his 30's
Washington Philips and Albert Ayler died without the acclaim they'd achieve posthumously
make the music you want to make, hell even invite your neighbors to listen or sing along, but just do it man

Sufjan toured with a band in his late teens / early twenties though and already had experience recording when he released his first album aged like 24 / 25

That's the same age as Anon is. My point is it's not too late to shake the dust off your feet and start walking. If he fails to achieve his dream, though outside forces can't always be controlled, chances are it's his own fault. I saw someone post a Steve Martin quote once and it still resonates with me
>eventually if you start practicing by yourself in the closet someone will hear you and call the cops

2. In my bedroom and living room
3. Well my piano is very expensive because it's a grand, my violin costs a thousand pounds or something, my laptop too, my headphones I can't remember, guitar around £200, iPhone can't remember, Ableton I got a discount for... all in all, tens of thousands of pounds but only because of the piano.
4. Absolutely. I have a graduate-level diploma on the piano and I'm going to study music at university. Hopefully I'll be singing in a Cambridge choir next year if I get the job (looking to be the case). I'm pretty much set for a career in music. Non-Classical may remain a side-project, but honestly I'd love to get big for this project or another one.

Dude, do you even listen to my music? that shit is waay too personal and shitty I just do it for the sake of self-expression (I mostly live completely isolated from people). I'm glad that I've already reached more than 1.2k downloads but I dont expect more from it. I'm an useless faggot and most of the people on these threads should also notice it.

I just meant that there is some influence by Sufjan and that it could sound similar in terms of style, but that's only in his more basic Carrie and Lowell/Seven Swans style stuff. I can promise you that the album I'm releasing is not the next Illinois or Age of Adz (or either of the previously mentioned albums, for that matter) although I wouldn't be opposed to people enjoying my music as much as I enjoy Sufjan's.
>>64250352
I'm back to give some thoughts on this. I love it. Why I didn't listen to it before is a huge mystery. The guitar playing and songwriting are superb and your voice is also amazing. And the production is amazing. Like Even Oxen, which I reviewed last night, this just gives me positive, happy feelings, which I can definitely say I've been needing. Downloading and I can imagine I'm gonna be listening to this a lot

If your music is good, you dont even need a label (labels drowns you). Yes, it may take a lot more time to get noticed but you can still become a legend :)

I'm 23.
I mostly record in my bedroom, sometimes in one of my other project's practice space. I used to do vocals in a radio station during off hours but I don't work there anymore.
I don't know the exact figure but definitely several thou. I have quite the guitar and amp collection, plus an electronic drum kit, an acoustic drum kit, and a handful of mics.
Yes. I have a jazz guitar degree. I teach guitar and make a good chunk of money that way already but I also work a "real job" threading pipe for a fire protection business. I have a detailed 3 year plan that ends with me just teaching and gigging and living the dream. The AAA isn't part of that plan unless people suddenly start liking it en masse but I plan to keep releasing music under the name.

I'm in a band called Cresca, we musically describe our selves as prog punk, there's a guitar and synth both playing in most of our recordings. We're also all pretty much gay, so sometimes people call us queercore.

>bandcamp has our ep, single, and live album
https://crescaband.bandcamp.com/

>piratebay has our full lp
https://thepiratebay.se/torrent/14369862/Cresca_-_Cresca_II_(2016)

I think we're planning on dropping a couple more singles, two 7" vinyls with an a/b side. so, 4 tracks, probably upwards of 30 minutes of stuff.
