“Hipster” is a term co-opted for use as a meaningless pejorative in order to vaguely call someone else’s authenticity into question and, by extension, claim authenticity for yourself.

It serves no conversational function and imparts no information, save for indicating the opinions and preferences of the speaker.

Meanwhile, a market myth has sprung up around the term, as well as a cultural bogeyman consisting of elusive white 20-somethings who wear certain clothes (but no one will agree on what), listen to certain music (no one can agree on this either), and act a certain way (you’ve probably sensed the pattern on your own).

You can’t define what “that kind of behavior or fashion or lifestyle” actually is, nor will you ever be able to. That’s because you don’t use “hipster” to describe an actual group of people, but to describe a fictional stereotype that is an outlet for literally anything that annoys you.

The twist, of course, is that if it weren’t for your own insecurities, nothing that a “hipster” could do or wear would ever affect you emotionally. But you are insecure about your own authenticity - “Do I wear what I wear because I want to? Do I listen to my music because I truly like it? I’m certainly not like those filthy hipsters!” - so you project those feelings.

Suffice it to say, no one self-identifies as a hipster; the term is always applied to an Other, to separate the authentic Us from the inauthentic, “ironic” Them.

tl;dr: if you believe hipsters exist, you are a plebeian.

I think it uses the same masters, so if the plant doesn't skimp on quality control, it should sound great.

The vinyl itself was pressed by MPO, in France maybe.

>>
>>64225138

>You can literally get a test pressing for €12, the release is worthless

That's not how it works
>>
>>64225255
Pretty much does, think of it like this:
If after 3 years there's a 50% devaluation of a product that was widely released and there are no external factors which can undue the depreciation, after anther 3 years will the price go up or down? If a limited version of the release (Test Pressing, usually limited to under 20) is being sold for the same price as an unlimited version of the album, does this tell us the album is a) worthful b) worthless?

Sorry, if you want the album for either "obscure" cred or to have the physical media, you should get the CD, it'll stay relatively constant for longer.
>>
>>64225301

What if I actually like the music and I choose to buy it in vinyl or any other format? I don't give a shit about value over time or obscurity.

Besides, test pressings sound like shit.

>What if I actually like the music and I choose to buy it in vinyl or any other format? I don't give a shit about value over time or obscurity.

Then you're a poser, if you don't care about the format you'd buy the CD as CDs having better sound unless you have a very high end set-up which I doubt you do considering you're arguing the case that you want to buy Vinyl over CD without any other reason other than "I like it".

>Besides, test pressings sound like shit.

So do records if you don't have a good set-up, just because it's a test pressing doesn't mean it has any worse quality that the full cut.

Also, the vinyl is pressed from a digital source in 99% of cases nowadays so you're just buying the digital files compressed on analog which will make it sound worse.
>>
>>64225366

It's a shop anyway

>>64225381

>Then you're a poser
Nice projection.

I'm not exactly an audiophile, but for all the vinyl I buy I already have them in digital form beforehand, preferrably in FLAC. It's one way I do to make up for pirating. I also don't buy albums with the hopes they get rare over time or get the most limited edition of that same one for the sake of it (unless it's offered for the same price or whatever).

>Also, the vinyl is pressed from a digital source in 99% of cases nowadays so you're just buying the digital files compressed on analog which will make it sound worse.

There's inherently nothing wrong with digital sources, even 16/44k will sound great in vinyl, but higher fidelity is preferrable, and competent labels and mastering houses will make them sound great. It's a classic case of lazy engineers that just use the CD masters and adjust it in every way possible to make the cut to vinyl (compressing etc.).
