/classical/ what should I get in the Nonesuch 50% sale right now?

looking at:

Louis Andriessen - De Staat
George Crumb - Ancient Voices of Children
Crumb - Black Angels
Elliott Carter - String Quartets 1 & 2
Edward Aldwell - Bach: WTC

The Aldwell is pretty expensive otherwise but I love the other music arguably more.
>>

>Elliott Carter - String Quartets 1 & 2
that
>>

Solid also the cheapest of them all.

Can anyone tell me what the dot and curve after the note means? Or just the curve. I'm pretty sure the dot means a dotted note.

Seconding that Carter, also get any of Horszowski's recordings on there.

like she literally ran down the list with us and asked "notice anything?" I don't think anyone said anything (maybe one person) and then she said "pretty much predominately white men right?"

like holy shit, I know it sounds like copypasta right now but I can't make this shit up. half the students called bullshit and half agreed with her though

should also note she also spent a long time in class trying to diss Babbitt, and the textbook we use is the one I posted about a few threads ago saying that Total Serialism is a flawed form of music

College is infested with cunts like that. I had a female literature teacher who deliberately refused to go over some of the more prominent writers in Europe simply because they were white men.

This is why I'm glad I never went to college. I learned how to code on my own time and did a lot of free lancing and built up a reasonable profile, and then applied for a job. I'm only 24 and I'm sitting on a very comfortable occupation and have a lot of excess cash. Never had to listen to any bullshit about cultural appropriation or how I'm a rape threat to women for looking at them or something.
>>
>>64213778
We had to go to a consent course recently and they told us that 1 in 4 women are raped on all college campuses and they taught us how to appropriately conduct ourselves :)))
>>

tbf though if you're looking for a classical job you have to go to college
but yeah, kudos to you for seeing through the BS
>>

Yeah. Where I live computer science is huge so there are tons of jobs flying around here for it. I'm just lucky I guess.

Any one record their own violin or piano playing? I have some basic recording gear and pirated Ableton, but typically have mentality issues when I try to record any pieces, and I end up making big stupid mistakes

thats why you record section by section. then you can just rerecord any spots where you make a mistake.

Because american marches were much more pop music than they were classical music. They were short, formulaic, and mostly extramusically appealing.
They're still good but they have little in common with any of his contemporaries.
>>
>>64217733
Classical has very ill defined boundaries but usually it is intended to be played for a specific music type house. Marching music and tavern music is usually filed under folk music.

Guys, I've never been in a classical thread before but I am looking for some music that you guys could maybe help me with. Lately I've been listening to some classical choir pieces and they sound incredible to me. I really want to listen to more music like that, where it's just a choir singing with reverb. I'm talking about stuff like this:
