Metalicas first three albums are decent but not top tier thrash

Everything else is garbage.
>>
Look, metallica is really good. have you even heard the guitar solo on one??? man kirk is so good. lars is amazing on drums. his work on st anger is really sick; got a really unique sound on that one too.

this is my favorite metallica line
>despite all my rage i am still just a rat in a cage

it's so true

metallica, megadeth, avenged sevenfold, the list goes on...

this

>Kill 'Em All - 6.5/10
>Ride the Lightning - 8/10
>Master of Puppets - 7/10

In my mind they cease existing after the black album

>>

What the fuck are you on?

Kill 'Em All - 9/10
Ride The Lightning - 8/10
Master of Puppets - 7/10
...And Justice For All - 6/10

The only song past that worth hearing is "Wherever I May Roam"
>>
>>64215279
Wherever I may roam is shit aside from the verse
>>
>>64215279
i agree with this except i would put master of puppets at 8/10 instead.

im ashamed to say that i actually enjoy listening to st anger. i fucking love that album but its hard to defend it. really i like all of their stuff except for the symphony album, black album, and death magnetic. i despise those albums.
>>
>>64215369
Yes. But no other Metallica song past Justice for All has any worthwhile part.
>>
I was going to make a joke about Lulu, but I decided it wasn't worth the effort, so I guess I'll settle for a meta-joke.
>>
>>64216169
>joking about the only experimental album they've ever recorded

I'm not a contrarian but that album is good, the only thing that drags it down? James' vocals, everything else is weird as shit but overall it's a solid 6/10
>>
How?
>>
>>64216221
>An album fusing a shit band and a shit "classic" musician.

I've listened to Lulu twice. I have a very open mind. Easily one of the worst albums I've ever heard.
>>
>>64213394
Oh jeez I thought you were serious at first. Damn I was ready to unleash my superiority as well
>>
Kill 'em all and no life til leather are complete shite though. You contrarian fuckers really go out of your way to praise debut albums don't you? Ride through Justice are mint.
>>
>>64216276
that could be because it's waay to long, but the story lou narrates is riveting and there's plenty of memorable moments (plenty of terrible ones as well, so I get the hate but tend to see it in a positive light)

It really isn't though. They're basically different fucking bands at that point. Plus the production and songwriting difference is far too notable to lump kill em all into the same category as the three classic albums.

thats why I like so much Kill em All. its so much more rock and roll and fun than their other releases. Master of Puppets is them at their best and most polished.

I feel RtL is a step towards MoP, cause its pretty similar but I think MoP improved upon everything. AJfA is really good but in all honesty it tires me at some points
>>
>>64216637
Megadeth only has two great albums

Metallica have four, and even could be argued that they have five
>>

Peace Sells, RIP, CtE, SFSGSW, Killing is my business

and they've always been better live (provided you like dave's vocals)

Metallica sold out harder than any band since KISS.

Megadeath is just horrible live now. Mustaine can't cut singing anymore, he should hire a lead singer or something

>>64218147
I'll agree that this is probably true. Everyone saying otherwise is probably wearing nostalgia goggles.
>>
>>64216322
This. Kill em All is way too unpolished (and not in a good way). I don't dislike it, I was a huge Metallica fan back in the day, it's certainly better than reload that's for sure.

but yes, ride through justice is their best work.

>>64218493

RTL title track seems really fast but it's actually only 150 bpm, which is mid/uptempo. I think FFWF is the fastest track on the album.
>>
ride the lightning, kill em all and master of puppets will forever be fantastic albums if you like the genre or not.
>>
>>64218256
i disagree completely. the first album is unpolished in a great way. you can feel the youthful energy on it that is completely gone by justice.

and justice for all is pretty shit desu senpai. one is a great song but all of the other songs on the album have such a shitty guitar tone and they all sound the same. i will give lars credit on that album though because i think it was the peak of his drumming on record and probably ever.
>>
>>64219332
You could say the same shit about kill em all. Only difference is you look like a casual if one is the only song you can get. Breh.

Also Burton got crushed so you think there'd be a different tone.

Also fuck kill em all.
>>
>>64219332
Justice was horribly mixed, but the songwriting was great; a bit pretentious, but it's some great melodic thrash

Rust in Peace is by far the superior album though
>>
>>64219173
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q406vgOTrPY

I can see James still hasn't lost his ability to do that 200+ bpm downpicking. And I wish people would stop being butthurt about them skipping part of the solo here since they haven't played it since early in the 1988 tour.
>>
>>64219414
at least kill em all has some semblance of variety and passion. it also has undeniable classics like jump in the fire and the four horsemen. justice sounds like they set out to make a br00tal album that they could chug all the way to the bank.
>>
>>64210763
Stop right there, and never listen to Metallica again, it's their only decent album.
>>
>>64219477

>>
>>64219556
I'm sure you hate Death Magnetic
>>
The stage/sound setup at their shows nowadays is so...lame. They use a guitar tone that doesn't fit the music and their amps are way too small and quiet.

Shit, Lemmy at the end was so fragile that his body was almost blown over by their giant Spinal Tap amps, but he never wimped out and turned down the volume. Megadeth still play as loud as possible as well.
>>
>>64219597

yes, variety. jump in the fire, motorbreath, seek and destroy, the four horseman and hit the lights are all distinct and interesting songs. personally i think the whole album is great, a classic that i can comfortably say id rank higher than master of puppets at this point (though that's probably from overplaying MOP as a teenager). kill em all feels inspired and raw, its a great listen

>>
The infamous Metallica/Motley Crue beef was pretty much just marketing glop given that both bands were on the same label (Elektra Records).
>>
>>64219651
Ozzy has been pretty good on the Sabbath finale tour. Though in his defense, he does not have to play and sing at the same time.
>>
>>64219758
Death Magnetic is basically "we ran out of ideas, so let's just do an incredibly AJFA-inspired album and hope it works"

The band must really be in dire straits, because there's literally no excuse for only having one new song in eight years (not counting Lulu)
>>
Megadeth has better whole albums but Metallica has better individual songs.

If I have a few minutes to listen to something I'll put on Fade to Black or Battery, but if I have more time Rust in Peace or Peace Sells is a more likely choice.

Ride the Lightning was one of the first metal albums I ever bought. It changed my life when I was a kid.

heres what i think, this is including only the official studio albums asdwell as important live releases and EP's to come from them.

5.5/10 - No Life Till Leather (8.5/10 from a demo point of view)
9.2/10 - Kill em All
9.5/10 - Ride The Lightning
8.5/10 - Master of Puppets
8.2/10 - The $5.98 EP
7.7/10 - ...And Justice For All
7.5/10 - Metallica (The Black Album)
5.9/10 - Load
6.2/10 - ReLoad
7.9/10 - Garage Days
6.8/10 - S&M (Because Of The Novelty)
7.5/10 - St Anger
7.8/10 - Death Magnetic
6.6/10 - Six Feet Down Under EP I+II (ep II i would rate almost a 7/10)
4.5/10 - Lulu (w/ Lou Reed)
5.1/10 - Beyond Magnetic

Upcoming:
9/10 for excitment
5/10 for probability of dissapointment

Personally their live recordings are all around the 4 or 5/10 mark. their live show is more about the energy than the music as James's voice is below par from what ive experienced.
