Is your taste in music influenced by rym ratings?
nah not really
rym tends to overrate certain albums (metal, japanese, obscure albums for the sake of being obscure, dadrock, etc.) and the community is somehow even more cancerous than this one so i avoid it
not to mention the high school kids who write 4 page long reviews which are just exercises in creative writing that have nothing to do with the music.
It used to be because I started exploring with their list. I mostly look at Scaruffi 7/10s or higher and use RYM to know what genres are involved and to read some extra opinions.

sometimes it's nice when an obscure album gets overhyped, because even if it doesn't live up to the hype, I wouldn't have heard of it otherwise
just about every video game soundtrack ever getting 3.80+ is fucking stupid though

I might look it up and see what it's like. Maybe if I know I like the artist. I haven't been doing this for long. I just know that I've generally agreed with many Scaruffi ratings. But sometimes I haven't.
Nonetheless I know his 6/10s are up in the air. Some of his 6/10s are 7 or 8/10 to me.
if an album has less then a 3.5, I won't even LOOK at it. My tastes are to superior to waste my time with bad, or even "ok" music.
