>It is much more difficult to write quality music around the theme of happiness or joy, than it is to write songs about sadness, loss or depression

Joy doesn't inspire yourself to get better as much as sad feels
happiness is a feeling you want to keep, sadness is a feeling you want to let out

Joy doesn't happen as often and isn't a persisting emotion, so capturing it is difficult
Sadness is like a shitty friend who stays over at your apartment for three years longer than he promised and you just want to hand him off to someone else
Most top 40 pop is about good feels

good point. It is weird that people are to exclaim they are sad, wheras less so with joy. Maybe it seems like boasting
>>64207284
I didnt say there is no such thing as good happy music, but that there is less of it
>>64207330
I would call 95% of my library happy desu
>>64207222
I agree that it isn't as persisting, but feelings such as true love don't happen too often, but that can last a long time and is a popular subject matter
>>64207360
is that on purpose?

I'll play my true partrcian card and say "I said "quality music" "
>>64207415
Mostly yeah, I'm a positive kinda guy
>>64207498
I wish I had a valium prescription too
songs about pure joy or pure sadness are both shallow kitsch. Life is always filled with a bunch of shades of emotions simultaneously
>>64207520
nah, its ecstasy
>>64207550
yeah, but you can usually tell if a song is leaning to one direction or the other, and its often towards sadness
>>64207449
That's my point. Most top 40 pop is low quality and not difficult to write (lyrically at least) so one could use it as an argument to say writing sad music is more difficult

except the top 40 is hardly representative of music as a whole. Most other music is leaning to the sad side rather than happy. Surely if there is more sad music than happy, it goes to show that it must be easier to write about.
