It's fast and bulbous.

Listen to your library, show off your backlog, revel about new music, tell us what you have been listening to today and what you will listen to in the following month, just let the good times flow.

I'd like what I'd heard from Gustafsson based on his collabs with Merzbow, but that didn't carry over here.
Mundell brought hat sweet sweet dub and reggae and I enjoyed the listen.

Hasture wins, advancing to face I'M FISH in the first match of the semifinals fro Bracket B.

Need one pick each from
Gina (unless you're Koroviev)
Hasture

Please include two extra picks as backup

Good morning memers

I had a good night last night playing with Big Ups. We played a good show even if i had had a sore throat all day. Big Ups were pretty good as weel, nice guys too. They really liked our show so that's cool.

Now i'm on my way to university on the train. The sun is shining and i'm listening to this.

Todays is gonna be a good day.

We actually just got the records this friday! Now we just need to make some inserts for them, and then they're basically ready to go. We're planning to do a release concert the 5th of June, but we haven't got all the details in order yet.
>>
>>64201567
Heyo, when did you get in a famous band and all? I missed some stuff!
>>
>>64201643
Haha i guess i didn't start writing about my band on here before you left. But we've played for 1.5 years i think, we just had like a one year break because our guitarist got a concussion.
>>
>>64201682
That is cool! Good for you guys, that you are back playing together. What kind of music do you play and where can I hear it? :-)
>>
>>64201724
we play a kind of melodic, emotional punk rock i guess.
you can listen to it here: bigmessdk.bandcamp.com
the tape thing was just something we recorded in our rehearsal space with a single zoom recorder, so the sound quality isn't exactly perfect.

>>64201567

You mean the ones where he's just screaming (Blackness 1, 2 and 3)? I enjoyed them the least desu. The guitar parts were the best tracks (especially My Only Friend, which is the only track I really liked) imo. It feels really incoherent to me with those alternating screaming/noise/guitar parts.

Aggelakas vocals work so well with Veliotis' dramatic cello. Veliotis is incredible here, always varying his technique, always making his instrument very evocative and perfect at building tension and emotion. It often sounded very much like the Turin Horse soundtrack.

Not acid at all. I don't really find Salsa very exciting but I gotta say it was very groovy and fun. Also, very nice drums.

Clifford Jordan - Glass Bead Games

This surprised me a bit. It's not that I expected it to be bad but I wasn't expecting it to be so engaging and consistently good because you know, it's an hour long. I really liked this. It never really got boring and the playing from everyone was very solid. I didn't think it was amazing or groundbreaking but it gets the job done very well. 7.5/10.

Die Antwoord - $o$
not bad, it's a shame that Tudor Jones had to go lol so random to get noticed, but I digress
there are some solid tracks on this thing, like Enter the Ninja, Rich Bitch and Dagga Puff, some of the traps stuff is really dated though, which is strange considering it came out in 2009 (which was 7 years ago guys, hold me)

Perfect Pussy - Say Yes to Love
Heyyyy, that's pretty good
yeah mang, it's basically a noise rock album, most of it's good, wasn't sure where they were going with VIII, didn't really fit the manic energy it had going on
maybe it reverse bookended each side, dunno, it was kinda bad
but yeah the rest is good, no-fi noise rock

New Bermuda next, digging the shit out of the bird in the first track, then I'll do Incubus or something

Fuck me this is great. If Badalamenti's score conveys the mysterious atmosphere of Twin Peaks with a slight hint of satire Lynch threw in, this portraits the terror and paranoia BOB brought into the city without any tounge-in-cheek bullshit. It might meddle with Lynch's concept, but it sure fits the entire Twin Peaks situation. I am impressed with the renditions of the original compositions.

Another great album!

>Episome

Really good - this really is a logical combination of all three artists. While I'm unfamiliar with Bill Laswell's other works, the record has the structural elements and zane of Tatsuya Yoshida's output, and the fluidity and purity of not just Yoshihide's onkyo stuff but also the jazz records from this same chart. It succeeds in not becoming too jarring or unfocused by taking on long passages of noodling similar to Tonic or Territory, which allows you to draw your focus to things like the texture as the long pieces play out, and it adds a bit of dimension. As for Laswell, his performance on the bass here is both subtle and stimulating, and makes me interested in what else he's done. This ends up sounding like the cover; those watercolours are flowing into each other to make something beautiful yet abstract, just like these three guys melt together to make this excellent improvised rock. 8.5/10
>>
>>64206633
Thanks senpai

>The Upsetters - Super Ape
What's there to say that hasn't been said? This is the quintessential dub album for a lot of people. It's nice and laidback and all, but there's a sense of something sinister and paranoia's right under the surface. I could listen to "Zion's Blood" on repeat. 7/10

>Gregory Isaacs - Cool Ruler
Much more in the way of traditional songwriting compared to Super Ape. More complex melodies, nice harmonies, etc. Not phenomenally exciting, otherwise, but decent. 6/10

Somedumbcunt - És'dec presents Minitower

Sdc pulls on some corners of bleep for this five-pointed mixtape. The atmosphere is thick throughout, and a bassy thump of a kick seems to be a connecting thread from track to track. In the insistent, striated time of the more energetic cuts (especially 04), it's a pressured FTTF pushing everything else onwards. In the smoother spaces of 03 it skitters across warm synths in syncopation.

If this is the cohesive core, everything is bookended by outliers that quietly suggest difference, marginality, even crisis. The shortest tracks on the tape, the opener and closer are also the richest - either by force of meaning ('I convulsed, I convulsed') or, finally, some sharper, more brittle sounds that begin to pierce and undermine the thumping centre of Minitower. In sum this is an excellent tape, highly recommended.

Unfortunately I didn't like this. I think it goes a bit overboard with the subtlety and quietude. This is just my opinion but I also feel like this kind of music needs to be more melody-driven, as a lot of the songs felt stuck with nowhere to go - the moods, the playing, the singing, it all felt too timid to actually move forward through any kind of tangible compositions. I can see the appeal, but it's missing too much for me to want to come back to it. 3/10

Heron Oblivion- s/t debut
this was really good. it's comparable to post rock in terms of song pacing and impact, but it's psychedelic- when the music peaks, it's like a Dinosaur Jr. solo. happily, the pacing and emphasis are arranged so that there's never a sense of "fuck all this waiting around, i'm just going to listen to DInosaur Jr". besides, Dinosaur lacks the comfortable longevity of Heron Oblivion. there's certainly influence from early psych rock acts, but it doesn't sound aged. it makes me think slightly of the grateful dead, because it's very jam-session sounding, but in all it's exposition, Heron Oblivion doesn't feel too dull or self-indulgent, a lovely aspect. there's female vocals throughout, which works really well.
comparing it to similar acts, it's a bit like a more accessible Bardo Pond; a less avant-and-folky Jackie-O motherfucker.

basically, heavy psych rock with post-rock sensibilities. yeah.

if you're looking for a 2016 release that won't let you down, try this out. the full album is on youtube.
hopes for the concert: I wish to stand in a crowd of people swaying around to the music, as if in a trance.

poem for ur tourney it's about music sort of so heyo : )

>Our uncanny valley can be stretching too far

Live from 1981, the gentlemen
has left a note described as
"failing to disperse" -no!
it was a love and a thanks
that encompass his diverse
range of activities, tech-
niques and motivations.
It was real music, I say!

The music published in
Alfred Schnittke's memory,
the fictional characters in
an American sitcom that
critics don't want on TV
for our entertainment!

The fools, they are!
I don't know why anyone
would want to just ignore
that pet project who took
a piece of your particular heart.
Why can't they love, instead,
in such a way that it's
lightly making fun of the song
that will play when you die,
until you are such a bright and
beautiful inexplicably
popular victim of other
people's bitterness,
smallness or insecurities.

I hope daily likes poems ';-;

>Enemite - Wuyuan
Interesting tribal dark ambient on paper, what with it having chinese folk influences and all. In practice, the tribal and traditional elements don't add much and it ends up being a middle-of-the-road dark ambient release with some embarrassing vocals thrown in for good measure. Eh, guess they tried. 2.0

>Protomartyr - The Agent Intellect
It's modern post-punk, so it's basically an already-established sound with a more polished, updated sound that nonetheless doesn't feel quite the same as the original 80s post-punk albums do. This is one of the better attempts at recreating such a sound, still. I like that the guitars are decently noisy. Uh, yeah, cool and all. 3.0-

Jack Rose & The Black Twig Pickers - Jack Rose & The Black Twig Pickers (2009)
>american primitivism, country

Jack Rose pieces with some unnecessary and hokey country twang over them. Taken seperately, the primitivism and country components are nice (its Jack Rose, of course), but they just don't fit all too well together. This combination could have and should've been better than it is, even if it is quite nice as is.

Lemon Demon - Spirit Phone (2016)
>synthpop, indietronica, indie pop

Goddamn, I haven't heard about Lemon Demon since like 2006. I made all of my middle school friends just because I knew the entirety of "The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny". I have followed Cicierega's stuff since then, his two mashup albums from 2014 are real cool, if a bit one-note. And then this album fucking blows up on RYM, and I got super hyped cos it looked super good. And its good, but nothing special, and far too overlong. The major thing that stands out is that Cicierega's vocals are actually really cool, they're very reminiscent of the vocal stylings prominent in post-punk and gothic rock, but juxtaposed against this ultra-playful and energetic synthpop music. The major problem here, however, is the pacing. There's just too much energy, it gets tiring as fuck by the end, and the second half is weaker than the first by itself anyway. But it makes up for that with great hooks, cool vocals, and a generally cool, kitschy atmosphere.

2.5

Oranssi Pazuzu - Värähtelijä (2016)
>psychedelic rock, black metal

Neato mixture of psych and black metal. Falls a bit too much into boring, droning atmoshit territory at times, but when it gets good it gets quite good. "Vasemman käden hierarkia" is really damn good.

3.0-

The Body - No One Deserves Happiness (2016)
>drone metal

The straight drone metal bits here are lame as hell, there's absolutely no effort put into them, its just Earth copied and pasted with a bit more industrial soundscaping. But when it gets weirder it actually gets really cool. Someone on RYM says one track "sounds like Kate Bush mixed with Sunn O))) and Prurient and it's insane." and I agree. Shame the vocalist screams in the exact same way on every fucking song.

2.0+

speaking of sajjanu, the other day i was asking myself about their often non sequitur/jumpcut-style composition, whether there's proper terms for that, early examples of that, or whether it's found somewhere in classical cuz it seems diametrically opposed to this sorta ethos of development that most I've heard from the tradition followed

This is a question for me, since it is possibly my favorite album of all time.

The recording works around every single sound Keiji explored in his career. Guitar noise rock, power electronics with digital theremins, Ligeti - inspired organ works, hurdy gurdy drone pieces, flute and shamisen playing and more. It is Haino all that he is - a musician who explores the sound.

Secondly, it is a duet performance with the best Fushitsusha member (imo) Yasushi Ozawa. He was probably the man who felt Haino's vision the best and this album proves it. Even when Haino is on a drum machine messing around, Ozawa manages to jump in between every single hit of whatever Keiji brings towards him. He just knows the man. They also sound massive for a duet, especially on some of the power electronic tracks (XXV is my prime example).

The duet also manages to turn the classic Fushitsusha staples into something completely different. If you take the version of Acchi on it (V), you can see how a stripped down version has a completely different character than what it was in the 80s with the 3-piece Fushitsusha. In 1996 on Nothing Changes... it was already losing its identity, while here it sounds like it has been abused to the point of complete loss. It gives off an occasional roar, but it stays in the shadows for the entirety of the track. That's what I love about Haino specifically. He alters the pieces to suit his mood and not just in a small way. This one specifically just manages to be one of my favorites.

Finally, the album never stops. One would think that 5 hours in it would go easier and venture into the more softer areas of sound, but it peaks almost there at the end. Throughout this constant upward movement, Keiji throws in some soft pieces for the flute or shamisen that are placed perfectly after the most punishing tracks.

It is one hell of an album and I'm upset about it being so limited, because that shit should have been recorded to be easily available

>>
>>64220552
hope you have fun with my taste if you decide to do it!

also i'm finally gonna (hopefully) listen to that phish record you recced me soon.
>>
>>64215062
That ending is GOAT though

>>64220552
Hell, droning AntiWarhol could be its own chart and then some, but if you're going to try and drone all of them, then more power to ya
>>
Hung out at the shop with some dudes
drank some 40's
listened to some dank ass tunes
went and grabbed huge ass slices of pizza

avoided all my responsibilities for another day

great 4/20

>>64220722
I don't know much about this album but have not many people heard because if it's length or are people not allowed to share it? You'd figure there was a digital release so I'm guessing it's the former?
>>
>>64221385
there wasn't a digital release. only 20 copies were made and given to Haino and friends, at least one made it onto interweb. past that yeah, not many people are that into haino to listen to six hours of bootleg
>>
>>64221440
Thanks for the info, its inspiring how devoted some fans are. I hope dog has a copy so if I ever visit the motherland we can listen together in our haino costumes
>>
>>64221516
I mean it's on slsk if you want it. unless you mean a physical copy? cause lol no
>>
>>64221516
>I hope dog has a copy
No chance as far as I know. I am trying to track it down every now and then but it is virtually impossible now.
>>
>>64221617
How much would you be willing to pay for it?
>>
>>64221927
I have $2k saved up just for it, but I doubt I'll ever buy it.

So, what's everyone's "holy grail" here? As in, the one thing that you want to hear so badly but is unavailable on the internet?
>>
>>64222358
Aside from SBB

why not just fly me out so we can hang out and meme in person
friendship is more valuable than a disc
>>
>>64222475
Because when I came to Houston no one wanted to hang out with me from the /daily/ crew. Maybe next time.
>>
>>64221947
Smart move

>>64222358
>you will never hear another Lift to Experience album
>>
>>64222493
I messaged you when you mentioned you were in town and you never replied so I figured you didn't want to. But for sure next time.

for a while it was pic related, there were two songs on youtube that blew me away

then I finally listened to it and was horribly disappointed to find out that they were the only two good songs on the album.

right now I guess mine would be Phogo - Phogo EP
technically I've heard the whole thing but it's only in really shitty quality on youtube.
no rym, no discogs, nuthin but a shitty yt video

>>64221947
you could do amazing things with that money
don't waste it on some overpriced b-sides
>>
>>64222585

you could probably buy keiji haino for a night with that money
>>
>>64222625
;^)
>>
>>64222467
I think it'd be safe to dip in the SBB money to get this. At least this is available, from people no less
>>
>>64222649

hands off, i mean. if you want to touch the hair, it's at least five grand.
>>
>>64222546
Don't recollect that desu
>>64222567
Probably next year

>>64222475
>what's the album like?
the cover represents it pretty well actually
think shibuya-kei, nintendocore, crystal castles' first and midi instruments
fiw likened it to eating rotten candy on the sync

looks cool
>>
>>64222567
They're reuniting for one show man. The best that's coming out of this is that Texas Jerusalem Crossroads is getting repressed

your music is strong, and the music is paramount. you don't have to leap around the stage like a kansas city faggot to be effective.
and their visuals are shit.
if you need visuals you should play videos of calm sunny fields and other placid nature stuff, I think that would compliment the tunes.
just work it to where you're prepared for things to go wrong and you'll be in good shape
also:
>2016
>not bringing landscaping equipment onstage
the outright plebeians
>>
>>64223497
I just realized the visuals are clearly set by the venue in this case, never mind
but if you have something prepared, you've a leg up on them

I lol'd. But HEY GOOD NEWS. Apparently there's two post-rock bands by the name of Small Hands, one based out of the Phillipines and the other in Virginia. Wew lad, I can rest in peace now.

I watched this pile of shit yesterday at my uni. At least the popcorn and beer were free, that's about the only redeemable thing about it.
