Vocals are bland and have this overproduced sound that I personal don't like; however, there are some decent vocal melodies; they are held down though by poor delivery. It doesn't sound like she's singing with her full ability (most likely due to autotune or just the mixing on the track)
The vocals being my least favorite part of this song makes it sting even more when they are so loud that they draw attention entirely away from the instrumental and force me to listen to it instead.
That being said the instrumental isn't amazing. It's just alright, it's clearly made with the intention to hold-up Katy's singing and do little more than that.
Lyrics: not worth even talking about. Boring,bland, simple, probably took six grown adults to write what someone in seventh grade could do.
It sounds like Katy Perry wandered into the wrong club where everyone is glassy with codeine, but, dammit, she's gonna sing her song anyway. It doesn't make sense and yet we are subjected to it.

Well with criticisms to Perry, it's really Prism as an album that's the issue. Although thracks like Unconditionally, Double Rainbow, and especially By The Grace of God are very good, the album is just filled to the brim with boring pop slosh.
Her two albums before definitely showed alot more personality and fun. I hope she goes back to that on her next album.

Dark horse is a product that people buy at a grocery store. It doesn't tell me anything about Katy Perry or the people who wrote it. It tells me more about the people who listen to it than the people who wrote it. In my mind It isn't artistic, and there is nothing inherently wrong with that.
I am not most people. Music is important to me, and what I'm generally interested in is things that are less sterilized to make it more appealing to a majority of people. Artists that are genuinely making music to express themselves. It's just my preference
