Finally got around to listening to this and it is now one of my favourite albums. More like this please. Also general discussion thread.
>>
a lot of critics said Carrie & Lowell was the new Pink Moon. Honestly I don't see it that much but idk
>>
I don't know, man.

Love this album and I'm not that into folk to know similar good albums.

Try some Elliot Smith I guess, but desu I don't think he's nearly as good as based Nick.

I sort of see the similarity in the voice but other than that I'm not sure I'd agree.

Willy Mason - Where The Humans eat
Is one of my favourite folk records

His mother's music is basically female Nick Drake on piano.

Jackson C. Frank is kind of like Nick Drake, but American and with a shittier life. Only really had one album.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0va3F2PWBJc

Drake was a close friend of John Martyn, but as far as I know, only Martyn's first album was solo folk stuff. Still good, though, but much more conventional.

Townes Van Zandt is every hipster's favorite country musician. Brilliant, depressing stuff. Check out Live at the Old Quarter, The Late Great Townes Van Zandt, his s/t, and Delta Momma Blues. A lot of his stuff was ruined by producers trying to make him radio friendly.

I recommend Leonard Cohen, preferably his early folk-ish material like pic related

Robbie Basho comes to mind in terms of intricate fingerpicking

Fairport convention. I think Richard Thompson produced five leaves left and some of the band played on that album too.

Wasn't it Richard Thompson who did the soundtrack to grizzly man (the herzog film)? That's pretty cool from what I remember
>>
Elliott smith would be your next

Listen to Roman candle, his first album. It's very much similar to pink moon as it's mainly just a sad dude and a sad guitar.

Benoit pioulard would also be wise to check out, here's a good three songs from him. They are short ones.

Have you listened to the demo version of place to be?

Honestly is 10 times better than the album version. And that's already a 10/10, so

Luciano Cilio; it's not folk music but the sparse, understated arrangements kind of remind of Drake's.

also check out Steven Miscus, he's like an Eastern Drake

lolno.

Not even fucking close, C+L was barely listenable
>>
>>64190296
Why?

>>64189394
Nice choice. Basho also had a pretty sad life. I recommend you read this article about him if you're a fan.

This. You can really feel what Cilio was feeling himself. He also killed himself as well a few years after he released his only album.

Just a side note, but on John Martyn's album Solid Air the song of the same name is about Nick Drake who was a friend of his at the time, who saw how depressed Nick had gotten.
>>
>>64190386
Painfully average for a guy like Sufjan who's proven he can make interesting arrangements. He's good acoustic but I like when he balances sadboi acoustic stuff with my orchestral stuff
>>

>>64190296
If anything this proves that critics are starved for good music.

What a bleak decade the 2010s are.
>>
>>64189127
Listening to Molly Drake right now, it's really good so far, thanks anon.
>>
>>64190563
While I agree Suffy didn't reach his true potential I think it was quite good for what it was. I actually rather enjoyed it

Right? It's so sweet and beautiful, Molly's voice timbre is amazing. It's like a qt female Nick.
>>
>>64191323
I hear the term "timbre" a lot what exactly does it mean?
>>
>>64188640
C+L is more Elliott Smith than Nick Drake.
>>
>>64191432
Huge oversimplification of it, but it's basically the "color" of a note. It's sort of how two people could sing a not and sound a bit different, it's because of timbre. It has to do with the frequencies an instrument or voice plays.
>>
>>64189127
Holy fuck Molly Drake is so good! The apple didn't fall far from the tree...

bretty gud, thanks anon
