Putting anything out on a physical format costs the band money, and CDs cost more than tapes. If consumers would just shift to buying digital copies it would be easier for everyone.

digital copies aren't collectible and don't add anything that you can't just get from downloading elsewhere. and you can't get a digital copy signed. Even if it's extremely limited, it's worth attempting especially if you have a big enough fan base. I went to a small show 3 hours away for a band I liked, and they had cd's and stickers despite only having like 5-6 people show up for them

it was like 6 cassettes for 6 dollars each, and the lowest cost of packaging was $100 for them even though it said before it could do it for $42

As true as that is, that probably doesn't make up a majority of tape sales, and printing CDs is actually a lot cheaper than people think. It probably doesn't help that most people don't know where to buy tapes anyway.
