SAF isn't shit but it isn't great by any means. Big Black is the perfect example of a great band who never released a great record. Albini's production was fucking abysmal up until Surfer Rosa (and even then he was such an astonishingly poor fit for the band that it undermines the progress he had made as an engineer and made the record sound bad) and Rapeman.
Big Black was tinny and plasticy and not in the "noisy" ways intended, just in ways that make the music sound like shit.
