Can someone explain the appeal of this album to me? It just sounds repetitive and uninteresting, I don't get it.
people like the title track, I don't see the draw of the rest of the album
It's a solid rock album
Probably one of the most consistent albums ever made in terms of quality imo
Mixed the aggression and straight-forwardness of punk with the technical and structured elements of Jazz, mostly within the twin guitar work.
If you can't find the title track enjoyable then just move on, Post Punk isn't for you.

Plebs
The music on Marquee Moon (1977), Television's debut album, defined the aesthetic of the new wave: acid, macabre and mystical overtones poisoned the melody, while group jamming that recalled John Coltrane's free-jazz expanded the song format. The agonizing rituals of Marquee Moon and Torn Curtain bridged the existential and the metaphysical the same way it was done by the Velvet Underground and the Doors. Verlaine and Lloyd reinvented the role of the electric guitar in rock music, the way the sitar was played in Indian ragas, the way John Cale played the viola in the Velvet Underground, the way Ray Manzarek played the organ in the doors and the way Neil Young played... the guitar.

The thing I had to get over was the terrible singing. I like the honest production of the band and how they utilize two guitars
Honestly, Adventure is more my speed but I think Marquee Moon tends to get all the glory

Read the lyrics his singing is more enjoyable
Prove it and friction are great
Firstly, I do think this is a kinda overrated album. But it is quite good nonetheless and you should like it.
First of all, consider that this is often classified as Punk Rock, and try to hear it as a ornate and flowery Ramones. Even the alleged shittiness of the vocals probably will come off better as like, a pretty hippie version Joey Ramone.
They were known for the chemistry between the two guitars, and if you listen to the way the two interlock in every song it's always nice. It rarely takes off the way it does in the title track though.
Which brings me to your point about it being repetitive. 'Marquee Moon' the song is a great example of being repetitive in a brilliant way. Look at the guitar solo, and the way it slowly builds while remaining very repetitive and simple. By the time he reaches those ascending scales at the end, it's unbelievably climactic, much moreso than some buffoon going berserk up and down the fretboard.
The most interesting thing for me is the interplay between the two guitars. Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd came up with some really interesting parts that worked in tandem to compliment each other. Same with the bass and drums.
On every song, each musician is playing a distinct part -- rather than just rhythm guitar player playing chords, bassist playing roots of the chords, drummer playing a straight ahead beat, and lead guitar coming in for solos. It's clear that a lot of thought and nuance went into the composition of each part, and by adding and subtracting from each part, the band is able to build and release tension, which works especially well on songs like the 10 minute title track.
That's what most people like about Television I think. For the most part people don't really care about Verlaine's lyrics or vocals.

FYI: See No Evil, Venus and Elevation are amazing songs

Pretty much this. You can debate about the quality of the songwriting but these guys could seriously play, it's like getting the elaborate architectures of Tony Iommi with the whimsy of punk rocky/new wave.
TIS A FACT
Can't really agree on Veraline's vocals, I love em, love everything about this album actually, one of my favorite rock records.
Do people who like Television know about all the prettier stoner rock stuff? I feel like you would like it.

Japanese streetwear brand Undercover did a whole collection last year inspired by Marquee Moon and Adventure
most of the stuff retailed for $500 USD+, hard to find now outside of Japan
I listened to Television a lot after I saw Undercover do this, I like Adventure more but Marquee Moon holds up fine.
