I would say Renihilation was a decent album, 6.5. Aesthethica is more difficult but there are some songs on there that are definitely worth consideration. Generation is a motherfucker of a track, and so is Returner.

I don't think it was that bad. I can hear some Groove Metal influence that seeps in quite a lot which I don't really card for though. Most of the riffs are really fucking chuggy and monotonous, but every now and then they are able to manipulate some riffs here and there to sound really heavy and neat like in From the Sky and Where Dragons Dwell. Nothing really blew me away though. The lyrics were decent enough to make me follow along on MA, but I obviously don't listen to meal for the lyrics, so I can't really give them bonus points for that. Also, the only track that sounded like an actual Death Metal song was Backbone and From the Sky's main riff honestly. I'll have to revisit this again though

The record that just came out is the closest return to form they've had since AoJB. When I think metalcore, I still think of these guys, not all the djent-laden proggy stuff that's saturating the genre now. There are some hit and misses, like the very generic Strength of the Mind and Cut Me Loose, which might as well have been on a Times of Grace record, but the rest of what I've heard is pretty damn nice. Nerophagist writes some pretty cool and technical sections, but then he just jarringly transitions to another one by slapping some scale noodlery in between. Not to mention he really fucking like his repetition and can overstate an already involved riff. The drum machine doesn't help him sound more organic either. In summary, tracks don't really flow well in my opinion, but he can write some cool and involved riffs.
