COME MEME WITH ME TONIGHT

Would anybody be up to watch Onibaba with me tonight? It's on youtube and I made a cytube channel (like a sync for movies), and we could meme.
If anyone wants to, tell me what time suits you best and we'll figure something out.
cytu dot be / r / eruditeys_meme_channel

and some info on the movie:

Onibaba ‘鬼婆’ (1964), Directed by Kaneto Shindô

In medieval times, on a remote plain, a widow and her mother-in-law kill wandering samurai, put their bodies in a hole in the ground and sell their armour and valuables, until the daughter-in-law falls in love with one of their intended victims.

The album started off really good and I got quite excited about it, but then it dragged oooooooon and on. I've never heard an album with this much fucking filler, but there are some good tracks in between.

exactly what is the difference between "7+" and "7-8"?
>>
>>64157147
7+ is that it will very probably become a 7 but there's a chance that it might become an 8. 7-8 is just that I really don't know whether it's a 7 or an 8. All the -,+ are temporary, when I listen more and add it to RYM I decide the final score.

no im not talking about "normies" or "anyone who's not rly into anime", btw, just whoever tries to climb a high horse by means of putting on contempt and ridicule for "low culture", "immaturity", "losers" and stuff like that which teh animu tradition is associated with (mish who probably just hasn't come to terms with his weeb/furry self from the past is a different story)
so, i really couldnt care if people get annoyed with it
basically for the same reason i hate cringe threads
or feel the need to defend stuff like nu metal

>>

>hunther (49)
oh jeez
>>
>>64157748
I definitely get what you mean with regards to cringe threads.
With regards to anime though, I don't really think the case is as strong. I don't like or dislike anime, but I just find the posts annoying because it leads to anime discussion a lot of the time. My rule of thumb is mostly that if people get annoyed (who are not completely stupid) I stop the thing they were annoyed at. But you do you.
(On top of that, a pic like the op pic makes it more difficult to casually browse /daily/ in a work-like/public environment)
>>
>>64157748
You're missing the point, it's just as annoying as someone posting gore or naked banana. Doesn't belong. I bet a lot of people who dislike animuposting don't have anything against chinese cartoons themselves. I mean posting a semi or not relevant meme or two - who cares, but putting some girl on every post you make?
>>
>>64157897
Oh plus; if the anime discussion was constructive I wouldn't mind, but it's just about which girls are the cutest and that just details the thread.

Thomas - nightfall

Melancholic and understated, Thom's tape hits an eleven o'clock mood throughout. These cuts hit a trip hop limp and follow it. I really enjoyed the more atmospheric intro, very well chosen for a shared melodic idea with the first track proper - which sounded like King Krule, but less over the top and with clearer production. I also enjoyed track 3, although this was a more black and white, minimal take on the same image. Only mis-step was perhaps track 4. Nice one!

Music that tries to challenge "what is music?" only 30-40 years too late (e.g. noise music).

I think a lot of noise is just meant to be fun though

take Tokyo Anal Dynamite (or really a large amount of The Gerogerigegege's music) for example

I don't think Juntaro wanted the band to be some masters of avant-garde

he just wanted to have fun

Maybe, but the reason people buy shit like that (Dogwander for example) is because they think it's oh so avant.

Modernism is an explicit rejection of traditional forms. Post-modernism argues that anything can be seen as acceptable (generally through means of social constructivism). John Cage was a post-modernist composer, not a modernist composer.

Every once in a while, you meet an album of which you really don't know what to make of, despite its critically acclaimed status and its appeal being explained in-depth by merely looking up some of the reviews. Lift Your Skinny Fists is one of those albums.

Having listened to this for four times now, there were only brief moments sporadically scattered throughout the four tracks. The songwriting is brilliant and how it plays with otherwise convenient post-rock structures, there is plenty of variety, the production is clear and precise. The presence of good musicianship and a successfully achieved vision is undeniable - it would seem foolish to claim otherwise.

But I'm just not feeling it. I would really love to, but I feel like this really stretches itself out for longer than is good for itself, despite being composed in movements in a fairly classical fashion. There is definitely an "ooooo" factor present that will pull in anyone who has an even fairly open mind to ambient music. But I guess I'm just not one of them. As much as I can appreciate and respect it for what it is, and the people behind this intricately crafted album, I guess this one is just not for me.

For those who love this, but didn't have it click right away: when and how did the click with this happen?

Why is it that when people come across music that other people like but they themselves don't like, they assume it's either "not music", or the people who like it only "pretend to like it for the image".

Just because you don't like a certain form of art (which is obviously fine), it doesn't mean nobody else can like it.

Noise music, free jazz, and Duchamp's "Fountain" are the classics to trigger the "it's not art" people. kind of irritating to the people who like those things quietly and unevangelically.

Agreed, this is what it seems to be for the most part (from my experience).

And for me it can get quite boring after a while. It's kind of basic, in my opinion, to just want stuff that's nice to look at. It is the equivalent of using music as a nice thing in the background.
>>
>>64160945

>>
>>64160945
It becomes difficult whenever a normie questions you about it... I tried to do the same with free jazz and avant-garde music, explaining them it's all about being patient and training their ears (they never listened to such music) was hard enough. People have an attention span below zero nowadays, any track that lasts more than 3-4 minutes goes into the trash most of the time.

>Bullshit, Modern art right now, ESPECIALLY sculpture is concerned mainly with making the art pretty or 'cool to look at' without actually making a statement

A loooot of sculpture and art in general these days is about societal issues, much of it inspired by feminist theory.

Literally the most popular exhibition right now in Stockholm is called "The return of the nigger king's son", and I think you can guess what it's about.

Almost anything that's put in a museum has an agenda or tries to push some point. Just because redditors drool over hyperrealistic renderings of some half naked elf doesn't mean that's what the current artistic landscape looks like.
