Imagine a married couple with the shared last name Pumper. Imagine the wife giving birth to a baby boy. Imagine them deciding to name that boy Sweet.
Sweet Pumper. Pumper, Sweet.
Imagine going through life with the name Sweet Pumper. What sort of a worldview would it result in you developing?
Imagine losing your virginity to a man called Sweet Pumper. Imagine marrying a man called Sweet Pumper. Imagine growing old with a man called Sweet Pumper.
Imagine your father's name being Sweet Pumper. Imagine your cowoker's name, or your boss' name, or your friend's name being Sweet Pumper. It's pretty heavy shit to think about.

Why can't we have a good conversation going in noise general like a happy fucking family god damnit
Anyone?
Anyone at all?
Is Brethren any good?
>>64127155
Brethren is okay, but you can tell the only reason anyone cares about them is their notoriety, if you know what I mean.
>>64125991
Can we stop with the huhuhu where are the good noise threads shit. We are a rather small number of people here, each with their own lives and that I assume don't listen to noise specifically all the time.
Make the threads. Yes I and others see your threads. But if there's nothing to talk about it will die and another one will take it's place.
No need to force ourselves to have a noise general all the time.

What did they do?

What a bunch of copycats
>>64127290
Not even; the guy's just a weirdo that posts on Stormfront a lot and really wants to be taken seriously. There aren't all that many projects that will admit to being racialist or whatever, so in that way he's certainly made a name for himself.
>>64127319
Lol, what's his name

Because that's dumb. Don't be dumb.
>>64127319

What are some projects that DO admit it openly
I know whitehouse has a thing about le concentration camps and nazis but I heard benett talking about how Mandela is a great leader so he can't be a natsoc, right?

He's alright. Like others have said, if he wasnt a serious racist, I doubt he would be as big as he is. Also I tried two albums of his & while the content was different, it still "felt" the same. So it didnt really encourage me to go further than that with 'im.

I guess I never really thought about it like that, and you're definitely onto something. I still can't say I really like the music in itself, but I guess I'm probably not the demographic or whatever.

I posted mine a few months ago and I received good/decent feedback, but I only did it once. My project is way too personal now to start shilling it; I don't want to taint it.
What /noise/ encourages is to find and contact a noise label to put your tape/cd/lp out, start performing live and stuff like that.
>>64129071

>>64129071
>What /noise/ encourages is to find and contact a noise label to put your tape/cd/lp out
There's no label that's going to offer to put your shit out off of the back of a bunch of Soundcloud links(unless you're doing something really extraordinary, and even then it's far from guaranteed), not even on tape or CDr, much less vinyl or CD. The best you can hope for is some advice and words of encouragement.
Self-releasing, involving yourself in your local noise community and the wider scene and developing a substantial and attractive live act and taking it on the road as much as possible is the way to go.

Responding to an unnecessary shitstorm with your original intent isn't complaining in the sense of the word you're imagining it is
What have you contributed? A banal "get out" post? Did you post some vapid "I like Merzbow" post or share a link with no other words? How about taking your own advice and bringing something valuable to these needy threads. There is nothing wrong with sharing your stuff here and there never has been. We actively encouraged it since the early days here. If it's shit and uninspired, don't even fucking respond. It's your comments that start arguments and derail threads.
>>64129260
Listened to it. It's not bad/terrible, but is something that I'd call inoffensive or undynamic. You have the first structures, some droning sounds, noises that quietly arise and fade out. Everything is fine, but you need to experiment more, add more effects, sample and manipulate sounds, field recordings, etc. Fuck around with left and right channels. I know it's your first attempt (?), and it's not bad, but you have potential to release amazing stuff. Also, don't limit yourself with software effects. You can use tape loops, pedals, contact mics, etc. My favorite tracks are Gateway V and VI. Loved the textures of those two.
>>64129295
Agreed with you on everything, few people are doing something challenging these days.

>>64131906
Played through this several times. Dude, for an early work this is really good.
Dusty, dilapidated crumbling walls of noise, rotting loops, shimmering and moist nocturnal atmospherics, organic sounds which almost feel like something you can touch and feel under your fingers juxtaposed with blatantly synthetic and alien ones, the use of fidelity as an atmosphere-enhancing factor in itself, colossal, unmoving walls of noise giving way to utterly chaotic and grotesque outbursts, noise sourced from both hardware and more concrete recorded sounds... It's way solid stuff. Fucking loved that outburst of shit-fi toilet noisecore drum/vocal spasms too, and how well it fits into the whole track even if it necessarily shouldn't on paper.
In terms of atmosphere it's ugly and dismal as hell, in the best possible way. I have no idea about your actual aims with it, but from my point of view, the thing that ties it together is a consistent feeling of abandonment and uninhabitation(I don't think that's a word but who cares), but where it takes that feeling changes constantly. The ancient juxtaposed with the modern, metal juxtaposed with rock, water juxtaposed with dust, the urban juxtaposed with the rural, the sterile juxtaposed with the septic, the elevated juxtaposed with the subterranean. And (aside from the vocal samples which feel a bit out of place for my money, but again, I have no idea about your actual aims) it's all totally coherent and complete-sounding, it doesn't just feel like you're trying to do a hundred things at once because you can. It just works.
Keep it the fuck up.

I actually didn't have a lot of that imagery in mind while I was making the tape, but those bleak, scuzzy, dismal aesthetics are some of my favorite vibes so it's really great to hear it came across that way! Most of his material isn't even really noise and no, I would hardly disagree him practicing "babbys first noise music". He's actually pretty talented, for example his mashups with techno are highly enjoyable and most of the synth-meets-noise material on Prurient's Frozen Niagara Falls was already explored by him years earlier.
>>64160203
>synth-meets-noise material on Prurient's Frozen Niagara Falls was already explored by him years earlier.
You need to listen to more Prurient. He's been making use of pronounced synth melodies in his work since the mid-2000s.
I Am A Lake Of Burning Orchids is okay but I have no idea why /noise/ people sing so much praise of that shit, it wears its Bandcamp amateur origins on its sleeve.
>>64160277
well yeah, Prurient played with synth-elements long ago but this certain incarnation that I refer to was first really present on "Bermuda Drain" (2011) afaik. My point was that that Lake-dude did it around the same time (and earlier) as well, also with his own spin, so you can't blame him really for copycatting.
As for his soft/shoegazy-noise releases I totally agree with you, "Summer in your veins" and all those other EPs were alright but nothing noteworthy. But his albums (Innocence, Valediction) were the moments where he would shine. Especially the first one remains a very immersive listen and it would be foolish to avoid it merely because some jackass in here calls him a "meme artist".
>>64160476
Lily Of The Valley and The Golden Chamber are the first I recall of his where the synth work was front and center in some tracks rather than just being an element buried beneath in the noise, and those came out in like 2006 or 2007.
>it would be foolish to avoid it merely because some jackass in here calls him a "meme artist"
Oh, I can definitely agree with that. The /mu/ mentality and culture are toxic dogshit and nobody should allow themselves to be manipulated by them.

>>64163683
>so intentional shit is somehow better than nonintentional shit?
I'm not talking about "shit" in terms of quality, as in "good" or "bad". Good or bad doesn't play into it at all, all that matters is what you're trying to convey and how you're going about it.
"Shitty noise", as in noise opting for the avoidance of conventional gratification and depth or conventional presentations of skills in sound craft and design and editing in favor of a way of operation revolving around building a sonic space which doesn't satisfy or reward the listener and which doesn't work as a straightforward release to be taken at face value can still communicate something and have value as a piece of art.
Shitty noise that's shitty because the person behind it is lazy and clueless about what they're doing doesn't have that dimension to it. It's just shitty noise with no merit on any level.
>>64163683
>everybody has to start somewhere
This doesn't excuse anything. Devotion and thought put into something will be reflected in the final work on any level regardless of whether you're just starting out or you've been doing it for ages.
There's no devotion and thought in what this dipshit is doing.

You prove with this post that you don't actually care about noise. Just like every other work of art, there are factors of intention, effort, tech usage, and composition that determine whether it is good. Don't talk about noise if you don't know what it takes to make it. If you can't discern good noise from bad noise and just have to assume like every other clueless underaged fuck on this board that "it all sounds the same", you have no room to talk in your ignorance.
>>64164328
how is this not common sense in here, it's sad how it even has to be explained
>>64164355
One, because /mu/ has died and its community is now filled with underaged ironic memers, and two, because this isn't a good noise community. Threads could be comfy, but that doesn't make them perfect, especially not now that people keep posting effortless projects resulting in the unfair bias against digital releases. Maybe four people here actually understand and care about talking about more than just a release or sharing links. Elitism here is garbage too. Remember the Hometown comp? Know how much we actually talked about it? Maybe 20 posts. The whole thread was a shitfest and now nobody wants to even acknowledge its existence.
>>64146757
what about these??

Nurse With Wound - Astrophytum
>>64164432
If /noise/ had the some dozens of people each time a new thread appears, I could agree, but I never saw the posters in here as a cohesive entity. Maybe I'm wrong but based on my personal experience I'd guess the average poster in /noise/ skips 3-5 threads before posting again. For me all these people here are an always changing crowd with merely a core of consistent users.

Come back when you have some listening experience pup.
albums similar to merzbow's merzbient with long abstract pieces rather than chaotic fast harsh noise walls but still avoiding conventional musical elements?
Cut it out with the meta shit, the retard who triggered it left anyway.
Turn your attention toward something that actually matters: >>64164019

Judging by the file size(others have confirmed that the v0 rip is 2.7 gigs large), no. Ripping CDs is a lot easier than ripping tapes, I reckon it's gonna be a while before rips of the tapes pop up. Wishful thinking that they turn up this week..
I just started Broken Flag: A Retrospective 1982 - 1985, am I in for an interesting next 4.6 hours? the first couple giancarlo toniutti tracks are pretty nice.
>>64165340
>am I in for an interesting next 4.6 hours?
Yes, it's a great compilation of one of the most important industrial labels ever.
>>64165340
That compilation is one of the most essential audio documents produced during the last decade. Not just in industrial and noise but in experimental music in general.
>>64165472
>>64165442
that's good to hear, I figured it would be cause I like a number of the artists on it and I know the label is well respected.
where do i go now /noise/?
>>64165744
I fucking love this title. Encapsulates everything I love about the Industrial/Noise style of bluntness.
>>64163407
gah fuck I love this album, such a landmark for me
>>64164993
Nope just the cd's
>>64165776
same, it's what I think of when I imagine a prototypical noise title. actually pretty much everything about that release is my personal image of a noise album.

Fucking love this tape.
The balance between the sounds, titles and visuals make for what in my mind is a quintessential example of noise at its most abstract.
i emailed boomkat about loads of the digital hospital releases being taken down, and they just got back to me. they said that hospital asked them to take them down, and that it was unlikely the releases would be available in future, but that boomkat would try and get a dialogue going
>>64168213
Interesting
>>64168292
yeah man, it's a shame because at some point i was going to buy all that i could once i had enough disposable cash
does anyone know exactly what releases were pulled down? the list of digital releases on hospital's own page looks significantly diminished, too
>>64168213
Well, shit.
>>64168342
Force Publique Congo and Infrastructure Zero are gone
>>64168342
>does anyone know exactly what releases were pulled down?
The ones I noticed: a bunch of Yellow Tears releases, FFH and Prurient's Central Park Jogger collab tape, the digital compilation of all Mitochondrial DNA material released by Hospital, the Dilloway/Prurient collaboration from 2005, the Exploring Jezebel and K.P. box-sets from 2010, a bunch of Prurient shit, a bunch of Ames Sanglantes shit, a bunch of Drumm shit, I believe(not 100% sure) the Viodre CD, the digital-only Contrepoison EP, probably a bunch of others that I can't remember right now and another bunch on top of that.
I know that Fernow was never all that comfortable with or fond of the idea of digital releases but still, it's a real shame that he decided to cut them down this much.
>>64168481

>>64168481
>>64168541
All Contrepoison releases, the Around the Dragon's Broken Neck Hangs the Medal Oo Saint Lazarus" various release, and the Vatican Shadow/Contrpoison split are gone as well. Interesting to note that this isn't just from Boomkat, they're gone from services like iTunes as well.
>>64168641
>Traum
still nothing, I'm starting to feel bad by saying "no" so many times.
>>64168650
All the Akitsa albums put out by Hospital are still up though, despite being the work of the same guy behind Contrepoison and Ames Sanglantes.
It's not even like the only things getting taken down are small-run tapes, some of this stuff came out on CD, some of it came out on vinyl, some of it was digital-only in the first place... weird shit.
>>64168718
No problem, thanks for checking.
After a long day at work, I'm here for some shitpostin'
rec me the best Alberich record besides NATO
>>64168879
>rec me the best Alberich record besides NATO
The Machine Gun Nest comp LP, that thing works unbelievably well as a coherent full-length album for being a compilation of select cuts from his tapes.
Also, The Cave Allegory tape that came out as part of the Vampyric Screams box. Fucking thing gets better every time I listen to it.
Hasn't Alberich been working on a new album for years now? I remember reading message board hearsay about it all the way back in 2013 or something and I can't imagine The Cave Allegory was the album in question.
>>64168962
You mean that the Machine Gun comps are cuts from the "best parts"? I've been listening to incomplete stuff?
>>64169338
I was under the impression Machine Gun Nest was a compilation of all of his early Alberich/Black Alberich releases in one. I think he's talking about an LP release that abridged it similarly to the LP of VS's Death is Unity with God.
>>64168213
God fucking damn it, is Fernow an asshole or what? Like if people who are pirating aren't simply going to rip the tapes from now on.
Fuck him and posh isolation
>>64168879
>>64168962
>>64169377
Speaking of which, Is there a digital rip of Psychology of Love available?
That surface noise is really annoying..
>>64169432
I don't think he cares a whole lot about piracy he's just got a boner for physical releases.
>>64169338
I'm talking about the only Alberich comp that got an actual physical release on vinyl(Machine Gun Nest: Cassette Works Volume 0), the other two were digital-only and presented the complete tapes in straightforward succession with no omissions or rearranged tracklists which mixed the various tapes up.
And yeah, the LP features a couple of tracks he contributed to compilations, one track off of Of Man, Of Genius, two tracks off of Turned Back and all tracks off of Rumbala with a tracklist that didn't preserve the original arrangement of the tracks on their original releases and instead seems to have been put together for the sake of making the compilation flow like a proper album rather than a collection of tracks.
>>64169558
If I remember correctly, he has stated in an interview that he is very much against digital downloading and piracy in general because it takes away from the artist and allows for someone to just easily grab a release without the work of trading or hunting around. Correct me if I am wrong.
>>64169604
I think I was going off the same interview, I got the sense that he looked down on people that amassed a digital collection but I don't remember him talking about the monetary aspect of piracy. that said, as a label owner I can't imagine that he'd be particularly fond of it.
well fuck
if someone could be kind enough to share some of their rarer digital hospital releases i'd appreciate it (lossless if possible). particularly looking for anything prurient, FFH or yellow tears
soulseek is a pain because it's tough determining what is tape rips or not
>>64169558
He used to be pretty pissed about pirates back in the day, though his issues with them seemed to stem more from a belief in the importance of the physical object itself as major element in further elaboration and exploration of the subject that a release is based around, as well as the total dissolution of the private and personal aspect of the record-finding "journey" and how a person gets their hands on a release and the way that that aspect in itself shapes the perception of the release in question that comes with just downloading whatever you want in 5 minutes, rather than some sort of Lars Ulrich-esque greed.
He seems to have somewhat loosened up regarding that sort of thing in recent years.
>>64169717
>that said, as a label owner I can't imagine that he'd be particularly fond of it.
Thoughts on piracy change from one label head and artist to another.
Jon Borges doesn't like it, Eric Wood absolutely loathes it, Mikko Aspa is fine with it and stated that there's nothing wrong with downloading something and then buying it if it turns out to be something you can see yourself appreciating for a long time to come rather than just losing interest in a week, RRRon doesn't care one way or the other, the Posh Isolation crew seems to have actively embraced it as a form of promotion and so on.
so what other places beside /mu/ do you go to to keep up with various noise artists
Could I have some feedback on this?

If you read the interview you can hear IAALOBO in one work or another of all the artists he cites as an influence (Witscher, Fernow, &c.)
That's not to say he's just a blatant rip off or anything, I personally think Valediction, Innocence and the rest have a level of refinement and earnestness only rarely hit on in that sort of sound.

>>64178048

Yellow Swans - Going Places seems like a go-to starter album around here if you don't just want to jump into the deep end of harsh walls, lots of atmospheric loops and heavy builds
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-BYNx_JZf8
Some of my other early favorites were Bastard Noise - The Analysis of Self-Destruction and Jason Crumer - Ottoman Black, would recommend those highly
>>64178048
If I could access the archive I'd repost a list of good compilations because those are a great way of getting into noise. White eye ofwinter watching and Broken Flag: A Retrospective 1982 - 1985 are both good. Dont feel like you have to listen to them in one sitting as they're both quite long.

This is really good, especially for a first release. The only downside is that for me the side A is much more interesting and well crafted than side B. There is a lot of maturity in side A, how you build the atmosphere and everything, whereas side B was much more linear and unsurprising, like you would expect from a "beginner".
Anyway just remember that my final advice would be to keep working like that, because you have a lot of potential !

What's the weirdest noise-related thing you own?
Just got this a couple weeks ago, and there are no good pictures of it online!
I just listened to half the Skin Crime boxset. Definitely one of the best noise compilations ever released. The live tracks are pretty much the soundtrack of a horrible, vivid, grotesque nightmare. They have that eerie, unsettling atmosphere that I like of some noise artists. It's a shame I didn't pre-ordered it.
