What did you get today?
Fela Kuti & Afrika 70 EP
couldn't find the xiu xiu cover album of twin peaks
:) :) :) :)
I got 808 State - Pacific because people here said it was good but then I discovered it was a fucking single, not an album. WTF I literally just payed $30 for a goddamn single.
I didn't go. Big crowds make me anxious and record stores are usually filled with pretentious people, especially on Record Store day.
oh yeahh
>>64108147
I can get like halfway through DNA on DNA before I start getting a headache, but still, sick score.
Deez nutz
No exclusives this year, only one I wanted that was in stock was the Lush box and I'm poor so I got these instead
Empire of the Clouds and 2112
Lush and the 1980 Killing Joke S/T.
>>64108082
deerhoof reissue & fall reissue were the only things wanted when i got there
>>64108082
kurt vile and and I got an album from the gay 90s
YAHHHH BABY
That stupid twenty one pilots single is already going on eBay for $35, they still had a stack of them at the store for $10 each when I was there an hour ago.
>>64108425
shoulda bought a bunch and flipped them
>>64108425
Phish - Hoist is already up to $85. Saw a bunch for $45 and should have picked it up.
>>64108488
If anyone is in the Janesville WI area, they have a bunch at The Exclusive Company as of an hour ago. Happy flipping.
Soviet Kitsch by Regina Spektor.
Wanted to get Metallic KO too but had sold out after 3 hours of queuing
these two.
anyone get the Real New Fall LP?
i bought white iverson lmao
they didnt have elevators at my store.
This.
First time listening, I'm on yet again.
Good so far.
>>64108194
This. Record store day is absolute bullshit.
I didn't pick up any exclusives, the stuff I was interested in was gone, but picked up a bunch of shit on sale.
New. $15 each
Rogue Wave - Permalight
Bear Hands - you'll pay for this
Tycho - Dive
Used, all half off
Led Zeppelin - 4, second pressing complete $6
Yes - 90125 $3
Foreigner - 4 $3
Ratt - invasion of your privacy $3
Duran Duran - Rio $1
Depeche Mode - Violator $5
Rush - Signals $3
Nothing because I'm not a pretentious hipster who goes out of his way to pay more for music that's less convienent.
bought both of Olivia Tremor Controls albums, really nice pressings it seems like
>>64108194
I hate big crowds too but you'll never overcome the anxiety of you don't face it head on.
>>64108194
I slept in and rolled in late, light crowds and there was still a lot of stuff left. I was a moron for not buying shit to flip I guess. I was after cheap used vinyl.
Still waiting for Love Streams to come in the mail...
>>64108147
I spotted that at one of the stores I visited today, wasn't gonna pay 20 fucking bucks for it though
Holden/Abbott - Fractals/555Hz - $25
Tony Conrad with Faust - $20
John Foxx - Metamatic - $13
Rich vs Roach - $6
Persuasive Percussion Vol. 1 - $4
Still undecided about wether I should open the Tony Conrad seeing as I already have a mp3 rips of it and it's bound to go OOP again relatively soon.
>>64108082
Dead Can Dance had a green vinyl reissue which is neat
Just these. No exclusives but I needed these
Didn't go to RSD but I got some cool cassettes for $1.25 at an estate sale
>>64108169
here's a partial refund m8
>>64108082
didn't get any exclusives but i got the seer and merriweather post pavillion and can - inner space
>>64108169
I'm sorry you had to learn this lesson the hard way, anon.
>>64109489
mfw the mastering on that cassette of kill 'em all is probably better than the remaster on the RSD vinyl
>>64109090
But you go out of the way to review a camwhore's albums and tell /rym/ about it.
went to the store that melonhead goes to a lot
picked up a bunch of good used records and got $5 off the purchase
all of the rsd exclusives sucked and new vinyl is way too expensive with way too little good shit being released for me to spend money of more than one album
really fucking happy about national health, been trying to find a copy for a long time and this one is minty
50% off with bullmoose points
>collecting cassettes
literally why
the only actual record store day release I got was Jay Reatard- Blood Visions
>>64108082
New RSD Exclusive:
Deerhoof - Offend Maggie
Jay Reatard - Blood Visions
On Sale:
Simon and Garfunkel - Sound of Silence
Oingo Boingo - Nothing to Fear
Oingo Boingo - Weird Science 45''
Damn, you fuckers are lucky I wish my store had Xiu Xiu in stock when I was there.
>>64109351
Your stores are Jewish as fuck, my 7' were 10 dollars or less.
>>64110122
$10 for a 7" lol
>>64109380
I guess no one cares about what I got...
>>64110122
That's in canadian funbucks but even so that store in general was overpriced as fuck, didn't pick anything up from them
Was the Xiu Xiu album actually hard for you guys to get? There were a ton of them in my local store yet to be sold, granted I went as soon as the store opened.
>>64110282
The two stores around here didn't have it, but I didn't get out until later.
>>64109081
How is that new bear hands album? I liked their last one.
>Bob Dylan - New Morning [LP]
>Electronic Eye – Closed Circuit [4 LP Box]
>Eels - Electro Shock Blues [CD]
>Michael Jackson - Bad [Cassette]
>The Nails - Dangerous Dream [Cassette]
>Wild at Heart [poster]
plus Xiu Xiu - Plays the Music of Twin Peaks
>>64108082
>Record Store Day
it's hilarious to see americans trying to proove they're not fucking retarded
Exclusive Buzzcocks double LP compilation.
>>64111239
>stop liking things I don't like
>>64111180
It's pretty solid. The vinyl pressing is quality and sounds fantastic.
>>64108128
>>64108169
I couldn't find the Xiu Xiu Twin Peaks or 808 State records around me.
>>64108282
How much was the Lush box set? I was surprised that it sold out before I got there, I didn't think that many people were into Lush.
>>64108194
Honestly, the record stores around me were terrible. A bunch of hipster parents with their fucking kids.
>>64110282
I was the first person in line at my first store (skipped stores with earlier openings, figured everybody would be jamming them up) and nabbed their only copy easy. Afterwards I went to a store a few blocks that had opened an hour earlier and they actually still had a copy of Xiu Xiu, though it had been gone by the time I visited it a second time in the afternoon
>>64109213
>C86 tape
>on vinyl
I felt bad for wasting so much time deliberating and settled on the 10th anniversary Blood Visions and U.S. Girls
Xiu Xiu
Jay Reatard
Mac Demarco
>inb4 pleb
>>64111538
[spoiler]I'm half-debating flipping it[/spoiler]
I really don't understand the deal with cassettes though. People call vinyl redundant but I honestly have no clue what the fuck a cassette does that a CD can't do just as/far more conveniently
>>64111580
The sound is shitty in a pleasant way (just like the 'warmth' meme) and they're cheap
>>64111580
It's the cheapest physical release. They can sound fine (depending on your setup) but magnetic tape technically has a shorter lifespan than vinyl or compact disc. You'd still need to be playing the fuck out of it though.
>>64111607
I don't have a cassette deck anymore, I'm considering picking one up since they are cheap and so are cassettes. Plus it would round out the gear stack nicely.
>>64108082
The Sword - John the Revelator (Son House Cover)
Clutch - Mad Sidewinder / Outland Special Clearance 12"
GWAR - Scumdogs of the Universe
>inb4 metalfag
>inb4 stonerfag
>>64110000
quads confirm that GWAR rules
Got the album too and I'm listening to it right now.
Sick for you just came on, let's see if I can get through it without weeping like a bitch about Brockie.
This
>>64108194
the store I was in was deep into a discussion about how Spotify will "/destroy/ record store day" and how we "as a people could do our part to make sure records will survive as the ultimate medium".
It was pretty funny.
Went to a record/vg/dvd store and bought this.
>>64112103
where the fuck do you find used einsturzende neubauten lps
>>64112289
Lots of record stores in and around Minneapolis have them pretty regularly
I regret not making the trip to my alma mater, but then again, I had a bunch of unexpected errands to run, otherwise, I could have copped some J-Dee goods. I really dislike my local shops. It's mostly non RSD affiliated shops and the only one in town didn't even have a good RSD selection (and it seemed like their hip hop selection entirely disappeared recently).
The only thing I got was a Django Reinhardt boxed cd collection, but it was a random find.
>>64111454
Different anon, but I visited my local shop a little late today and they had several of these box sets still available at $160.
My hometown's music climate is pretty shitty especially since it has a saturated hardcore scene, so I'm not very surprised that they weren't sold out, but I'm also a little sad since I saw hype over their comeback elsewhere.
>>64108243
Saaaaame.
Man, I really wanted one, but I'm not sure if I can bring myself to get it with the way my finances are heading.
>>64108082
nothing because I'm a poorfag
>>64108082
Jay Reatard - Blood Promise
Xiu Xiu - Plays the Music of Twin Peaks
Outkast - Elevators (me and you) 10''
Mystery Disc
Carl Douglas - Kung Fu Fighting (Single)
Miles Davis - Ghetto Walkin'
The Wizards - Purple Magic
Sixties Japanese Garage-Psych Sampler
Dead Can Dance - Anastasis
>>64112525
Blood Visions been a long day
>>64111454
Lush set me back $100. $20 an LP? Not too bad. Still, scalpers on eBay are inflating this shit hard for the most part.
nothing - hasn't been anything worth going for for the last couple years
plus it's not helping the record industry anymore, it's hurting it
>>64112692
>plus it's not helping the record industry anymore, it's hurting it
How?
>>64112762
in the beginning it was reviving interest in records, it was getting more people in record stores
that's done now, every dummy has run out and bought a Crosley, vinyl is back
now all these shitty releases slow down the extremely limited number of pressing plants, delaying bands with legitimate albums to release by months, for shit like Disturbed covering "Sound of Silence"
and then the worst of those records sit on the shelves of record stores for years, they're unable to move them
i think the main contingent that RSD is still helping is the resellers, the piece of shit scalpers
>>64108194
I feel you. tbqh, I regret going out today.
>local shop is cramped enough; feels weird seeing more than two shoppers at a time
>shitty cover duo were performing in front of the properly organized RSD selection (the rest were in boxes on top of each section)
>called up a record store in some flyover town
>owner had no idea what musicians I was talking about
>insisted that I check it out since their sister shop (newly opened) in a different town is 3x's bigger
>one long ass drive to the boonies later....
>empty af
>music selection is entirely made up of CDs and for some reason, an entire wall for metal music
>the handful of LPs were composed of old thrift store tier quality records and musicians
Sure they had some old school vidya and a lot of dvds to look at along with pop culture memorabilia, but they were hardly a record store. They need to take down their RSD affiliation.
>>64112396
>>64112103
Ok, I feel less shitty about my lack of purchases and just overall a shitty day. I'm totally saving up for a weekend trip to the twin cities. I've always wanted to visit Electric Fetus.
/polite sage. I don't think I'm really contributing here
I got this, and the VRTJ, I'm new to vinyl and stuff, what do I do now?
>>64113130
**they're 3x's bigger than their sister shop
Fuck, I'm going to bed.
btw, they weren't even that big. I've been to similarly sized and smaller shops with better quality works and better informed store owners.
>>64113139
Have fun permanently fucking up your records fuccboi
I got Jay Reatard Blood Visions
Its bretty cool
>>64113676
Why? I'm new to this stuff
>>64113732
shit I better go return my copy now
how's Blood Visions? (the stuff that wasn't on the original record, obviously)
any pictures? rate the extra songs?
>>64108082
Stumbled across pic related, it's the American pressing but still pretty sick. Translucent vinyl.
Also got Thunder Lightening Strike by The Go Team (red/yellow swirl, my only read RSD pick up), a DJ Shadow promo 12" from 2006 and London 0 Hull 4 by The Housemartins.
Call me whatever you like, I'm pretty pleased.
>>64113742
A record player like that is bound to have a shitty/poorly made needle, it's gonna wear your vinyl out much faster. You're better off in the long run shelling out for a decent turntable/pre-amp/speakers up front.
Only got the Xiu Xiu Twin Peaks album. Local store still had about a dozen copies when I went in at 4pm.
jay reatard boi
>>64114097
What's with the moist panties around here for the Xiu Xiu record? It seems like every second person wants a copy.
Grateful dead (for a friend)
Phish (for a friend)
Dogfish head (for a friend)
Outkast
Circa survive
All-American rejects
Skeletons
Went later in the day and saw transatlanticism by death cab so I cop'd that.
I was like 30something in line this morning. Got there 3 hours before they opened. The dude first in line was there since 5 from the day before.
I saw a lot of fuckers in front of me clearly being resell fags. Like really? 30 of your favorite bands just so happen to have released on record store day this year? Gimmie a fucking break.
But all in all the weather was awesome today and I had an amazing time.
PREX represent.
Really happy about this one
>>64114138
This. I don't think I've ever even heard a Xiu Xiu song, let alone know anything about them. It's just a name I see maybe twice a year on /mu/ except for today.
I ordered Blood Visions through InterPunk over a month ago. Fuck Record Store Day. I'd rather sleep in.
>>64114248
xiu xiu are essential faggotcore though
>>64114289
That explains a lot.
>>64114248
It's odd, they're pretty well known by everybody around here and are essential Scaruffi-core as far as 2000s bands go, yet they get very little discussion.
>>64114138
>>64114138
I've never listened to Xiu Xiu before but I love Twin Peaks so I pulled the trigger on it. Listening to it right now actually, it's pretty fucking rad. What are their essential albums?
>>64114463
Fabulous Muscles, The Air Force, A Promise. They did a Nina Simone cover album a few years back that's rather polarizing
>>64114463
Found a chart bruv, you're welcome
Did anyone have over 100 people in line? Last time I went there were about 300
>>64114630
The place I staked out was open a bit later than other stores in town, it ended up having about 25 people in line by the time the doors opened. Was talking to some people in line that said they were at stores that had super-early opening times and they had massive lines though.
>>64108082
Rate my pickups bruhs.
>First pressing of Sketches of Spain
>15 dollars
Feels goodman.
>>64114148
I went very late in the day, but I had forgotten it was RSD until I got there. Haven't been there in a while and tbqh there's a reason for that, they've upped their prices and it's all junk anyway. I've been going there for around 15 years, these days it's wall to wall faggots.
anybody get the rising tied vinyl? first time on vinyl, coke bottle green, 11 years after release
>>64114630
There was a store in my town open 24 hrs. So naturally I rocked up at 10AM and bought a non-RSD release.
I gave the Jason Molina away. Otherwise, these were my pickups.
Got every exclusive I wanted, A pile of $1 LPs, and a bonus side trip to the comic book section. The Go! Team record looks fantastic.
>>64109081
>Permalight
Nice, I don't think I've seen /mu/ mention this before
>>64110006
What's wrong with cheap physical copies? They're great collectables that I've never seen cost more than $5.
>>64109489
is there any way of telling what will be sold at an estate sale? I've always been curious to see if I can get a receiver on the cheap through one
>>64114149
CHOCOLATE AND CHEESE AND THE POD I BOTH MISSED OUT ON TWO YEARS IN A ROW DAMN
>>64108082
Nothing.
>>64108082
nothing vinyl is for hipster fags
>>64114149
I got The Pod last time around, love it.
>>64116997
How much did the Xiu Xiu go for retail?
>>64117673
bout $25
>>64116998
I don't think I've seen Permalight, or Rogue Wave for that matter, mentioned on /mu/. Pretty good album.
blurry xposts from snapchat incoming
1/2:
Gil Scott-Heron - Reflections (orig US)
Loudon Wainwright III - Album III (orig US)
Neu! - Neu! (orig US) <-- unexpected find
Pere Ubu - Song of the Bailing Man (orig UK)
Etron Fou Leloublan - Le sillons de la terre
Henry Cow - Unrest (orig UK)
2/2:
Ministry - Twitch (orig US)
Randy Newman - 12 Songs (orig US, pre-"big W")
Violent Femmes - Hallowed Ground (orig US or maybe the 87 repress, gotta reexamine the label)
Captain Beefheart - Ice Cream for Crow
Helmet - Strap It On (orig, on Amphetamine Reptile)
no RSD exclusives, they just disappoint me more and more with each passing year
picked up the mac demarco exclusive and the tame impala live versions album. really happy.
>>64118896
Hahahahaha what's it like being 14?
>Yours to Keep - Albert Hammond Jr.
>Ghetto Walkin' - Miles Davis
>That Talking Heads 7"
pretty successful imo
>>64118636
>henry cow
>neu
>etron fou leloublan
FUCKING
NICE
>>64118917
I wish I was 14 again. just finished mac's record, it was cool.
>tfw my local record store didn't do RSD this year because they don't have enough money
Feels kinda good actually, fuck RSD.
RSD is an absolute joke. It's a marketing gimmick to get idiots to pay top dollars for represses or records that shouldn't even exist. You should literally feel bad if you participated in any sort of capacity.
>>64119199
I beg to differ. I have been waiting for Yours to Keep to come out on vinyl for years. It sucks that they just finally released it, but I only paid $18 for it which is much cheaper than most vinyl I buy.
>>64119199
I went for the sale prices on non rsd stuff and half priced used vinyl.
>>64119362
Oh okay I guess we can ignore the fact that the entire day is about price gouging, fueling the 2nd hand market, overtaking the pressing plants and selling bullshit release because you got some album by the guitarist of some shitty band for an okay price.
>>64119485
>trying this hard to be contrarian
wowee
>>64119362
This was the one thing I really wanted to get
Only RSD release I really wanted was DJ Screw's 3 in da Morning Part Two but bought it online at a steep discount so waiting for that to get here. Meh
was there anything comparable to govt plates this year in terms of supply and demand?
Nothing. Couldn't find the Clutch album or the Zappa 7" I wanted. So I went home.
>>64119948
Xiu Xiu maybe? It's going for $100+ online right now, probably the closest comparison
>>64120266
fuck
I tried taking a stab at this kinda stuff for two record store days last year but failed miserably so I stopped.
John Cage - Early Electronic and Tape Music
Neil Young - Harvest
Sun Ra - Space is the Place
It was hard choosing between Everybody Knows This is Nowhere and Harvest.
>>64120978
None of those are from record store day..?
>>64119485
It's a day when a bunch of people throw money at record stores. And they may not have otherwise. It drives business to independent record stores all over the US and that's a good thing.
>>64121118
Plenty of people go just to buy normal albums to support the stores
>>64123308
but that would be completely stupid in the extreme since most of the stores have lines over 100 people long and at the very least would be more crowded than usual.
>>64123386
Lines are usually only for the first hour or two.
Usually free music. Free food/drinks/donuts
discounts on a lot of non-RSD stuff.
Show up at certain times get certain percentages off some places . Not stupid at all.
Better than being the only one in the store and having the dude who works there stare at you while you flip through albums for 20 minutes
>>64123548
>Usually free music. Free food/drinks/donuts
>discounts on a lot of non-RSD stuff.
wtf my place sucks then
Dumped.
These and some free teen suicide ep on red cass
I'm poor so I actually just donated a bunch of old cds. Went for store credit instead of cash, but still only had enough for one cd. I got a copy of Year Zero.
Would've still gone even if I didn't get anything back, though.
