I appreciate feedback more than you can imagine, so please do provide me with some.
Album no. 2 will either be ambient music or chamber music.
Digging these:
>>64085723
I feel like your music would benefit very highly from more organic instrumentals (e.g. an actual keyboard or piano) because I feel like you have some really cool ideas, but I feel like it sounds just a little "too MIDI". I got my keyboard for like $20 at a local pawn shop, it's just a suggestion. Otherwise I'm liking it, it's a pretty cool blend of sounds and ideas with the pianos, ambience, and hi-hats, but definitely think about maybe picking up a cheap keyboard or something in the future. Really cool artwork too.
>>64085850
I've been a fan for a while and I'm certainly not stopping now. I need to listen to the full album, but from the tracks I have heard I really like them. It really is a nice and 'cutesie' sound with an underlying sadness. I like it quite a bit.
>>64085891
I haven't gotten through the entire first track yet (please forgive me), but I'm really LOVING the intro. I love the 'fanning' of the sounds. I'm also a pretty big sucker for a lot of glitch related stuff because I think it sounds incredibly interesting. Also, that weird moist sound loop is perfectly unsettling, something I'm assuming you were going for. Great job and I'm looking forward to listening to the whole thing sometime soon.

thanks for the feedback! I know what you mean about everything sounding too midi and I agree. Ideally I'll be redoing a lot of this album in the future when I'm better at piano and have a good way to record it, but until then i'm just sticking with programming the notes

man so many thanks, really good to hear it's enjoyed right off the bat. First time venturing into this style. Honestly all this material poured outta me and I gave it next to nothing as far as critical thought goes while making it. Was really just an essential purging to me. So huge thanks
https://droopies.bandcamp.com/releases
>>64085989
I give you props because you definitely did a great job of recreating some early happy-hardcore, you aimed for the target and you hit the bullseye.
>>64086172
I'm liking the sound overall (I'm listening to dream), but I feel like a bit more tightening to your overall sound and production could do it some wonders. Really liking that weird 'breakdown' part in 2 where it starts going into what sounds like distorted wind sounds.
>>64086401
I'm definitely excited to hear that "re-issue" whenever it comes out, but I agree it's better to get your ideas and sounds out there than to have to postpone them because you don't have the proper equipment and shit. I have a friend who plays classical and jazz on his clarinet and even he has to use a shitty MIDI sequencer to keep track of his projects.
>>64086251
>Digging these: [blank] kek
But anyways, I'm digging your overall sound and I know it's supposed to be very minimal and etc. (I know, I make ambient music too), but I feel like the very first chords/the intro could use a higher mixing and an extra oomph. Same when with the distorted guitars mix in, it sounds like it's missing an extra kick to it. My mind says it lacks something bassy or cavernous but I could be wrong. Either way I'm liking it overall.
>>64086602
Thank YOU for making really nice glitch music. It's a genre/style I've been meaning to explore production and listening wise. And sometimes it's better not to second guess yourself and release shit without overanalyzing it, it's more exciting and 'raw' that way. I mean, that doesn't mean you should always do it that way without quality checking yourself, but it worked it out nicely for this release.

>>64085723
Pretty cool aesthetic (literally), makes me think of winter. I think the work overall could benefit from some more low end. It seems a lot of pieces lack low end. What do you monitor on?
>>64085850
Interesting. I like the low fi, heavily room based sound of this. I can basically hear the rooms you recorded this in. I like Run to the Roadhouse.
>>64085891
This is cool. I listened to about 6 minutes of it. Not in the head state for it but I appreciate the craft. Solid noise mix.
>>64086171
Interesting. Definitely sounds vintage.
>>64086251
YES! LOVE IT. I think it would be cool to hear modulation inside your distortion settings on future albums. I hear a lot of unchanging distortion for some of this. Would be nice to have some subtle variation and evolution of the distortion.
>>64086433
I like the art work and aesthetic a lot. The production quality matches it well. I think harmonically these pieces are pretty unadventurous. It's pretty but it doesn't capture me. Solid concepts though!
>>64086788
Cool starting point. What suggestions are you wanting? I think it could use more sensitivity towards the linear development of it. Take those noodles and transform them into a cohesive narrative scene. The lo-fi-ness of it is attractive.

>>64085723
I remember saying I like this well enough a while back and I stand by that. Some other guy said you should get more organic instrument sounds but I actually disagree. I appreciate the chintzy feel of ultra-fake synthery.
>>64085850
I like the folkier songs on this quite a lot actually, but the interludes seem pointless and I really just don't get some of the songs, like Dreaming of Picture Frames. Just does nothing for me. I haven't really liked much else you've done though, so this seems like a step in the right direction to me.
>>64085989
Perfectly acceptable EDM type stuff. Afro Ninja was probably the weakest out of them. Also holy shit your page's visuals really need some work. There's probably some weird concept of irony at play but it's just ugly as sin. I know most people don't care that much about this kind of thing but if you want to people to like your stuff you have to appeal to them in every way you can without compromising your artistic integrity.
>>64086172
Quite bad. Like a dog dick in my ear holes. don't get ambient though so maybe I'm not the guy to ask. Try reviewing some other peoples stuff once in a while. Considering that you didn't this time, as far as anyone can tell, consider yourself lucky that anyone bothered to review your stuff at all. Even if all you do is bait people, like I do.
>>64086251
The word 'drone', its use as a genre name out of the equation completely, has a real negative connotation in my mind. As in, "that bitch Steve from the third floor droned on and on about how good his Paleo cookies were but they felt like a god damn kitchen sponge in my mouth. So not kawaii desu." I never got why someone would want to identify their music as such.
That said, this was pretty good, and drone is a really hard sell for me.
>>64086788
Try being more confident in the quality of your artistic output. Like this douche >>64086968

>>64086332
Fucking loving Rickshaw Riot off of that bluuurp EP, will admit that some more natural sounding distortion and lo-fi elements would probably sound a good deal better for production than what sounds like added in filters on the synth(s). Still pretty great stuff, it's like a rave-party remix of a Nine Inch Nails track.
I'm also really, well, loving what I'm hearing from that Blue Honey album so far. It definitely nails their description of a "quintessential lover's weird album". Very pleasant stuff.
>>64086433
Very lovely and really beautiful concept. I don't know why it's hitting me particularly hard in the soft spot, maybe it's because I've lived my whole life in small towns or something, but this has me feeling a certain way. The production is exactly how it should be. I'm going to have to listen to this whole thing soon. Very gorgeous stuff. I also love the packaging for the cassettes, I might have to cop one sometime soon.
>>64086632
This stuff sounds like something I would hear in an indie movie, pretty nice stuff. I will admit though, the instruments do get a little too noisy at some points and it could use a little bit better mixing, but pretty good stuff for a debut.
There's a label I've found that releases literally anything on CD, tape and vinyl as long as it's metal or gothic and I'm getting an improv album of metal pressed. Should I release it on bandcamp too? It's a major departure from my style, I'm only doing it just for fun and to have some physical media around.
>>64087231
thanks dude, we've got a new tape from Dragao Inkomodo coming out in a couple weeks, its gonna be sick!
>>64087275
I would, physical media / merch is REALLY helpful because it gives your fans a sense of continuity and legitimacy and at shows people who dig it can buy something to help you stick with them
>>64087275
What's the name of this label anon? And yes, you should. I attempted to start an improv wiggerslam band once but it was hard to find people as into the idea as I was. Even harder to find the right combination of interested, decently talented, and actually able to jam and not just noodle all self-absorbed like.
>>64086923
thanks my dude for listening! Yah, I'm going to start working on my adventurous side with my next album.
>>64087231
I'm so glad you enjoy it! The cassettes and the album were super fun to make.
>>64087419
Yeah but like I said, it's a massive departure from my style. Such a thing can polarize fans (though if I have any fans, I think they've been polarized plenty thus far).
>>64086433

piano on this is gorgeous by the way
>>64086923
>What do you monitor on?
JBL 305s, but my room isn't treated at all so they may as well be bose speakers. the quieter low end was a decision on my part to stray away from sounding like standard trap beats and getting a lighter sound (and honestly idk if it worked out in my favor or not but it's already released so I guess I'm sticking with it lol)
>>64086332

You guys should throw a show together lol.
>>64087104
Vouch, that guy is ultrakek. But he is expressing himself and that's ultimately what matters.
>>64086788
It's really not that bad at all, I mean, it does sound like you recorded by sticking a microphone in one of your air vents and then kicked it as far as you could into said vent, but I'm still liking some of what I've heard. I know you said it was made in under 10 minutes, but I still think if you sat down and focused on it, you could make something really good.
>>64086923
Holy shit, Dream&Bass is really a very accurate description far what I am hearing. It kind of hit me like a fucking brick when the electronics kicked in, but I'm really loving what I'm hearing. Incredibly gorgeous vocals. Very cool direction of music you are going in.
>>64086968
NEW HAMPSHIRE SENPAI. Can't say I am 100% digging everything about it, but I can say I am intrigued. I'm liking the passion in the vocals, and the pretty chaotic instruments. It all could all be mixed a little higher, but still, practice makes perfect and I'll more than likely peep that new album when it's finished.

Also temporarily forgot that /mu/ automatically filtered that word to senpai.
>>64087195
I'm liking the overall sound of this track, but as I said to one or two people earlier a more organic instrumentation would make this sound quite a bit nicer, but definitely do not make that stand in your way of creating and releasing your art, because it is pretty nice.
>>64086923
>This is cool. I listened to about 6 minutes of it.

definitely agree though that when it channels right, stream of consciousness is worth preserving. so long as the finished product still makes sense the next day after you and it both have time to breathe.

>definitely agree though that when it channels right, stream of consciousness is worth preserving. so long as the finished product still makes sense the next day after you and it both have time to breathe.
