Albums you can't get into even after repeated listening.
>>
try not having plebitis
>>
>>64083980
>>
>>64084056
How come?
>>
>>64084078
I've tried my hardest I just keep on listening to it but I can't find the meaning to it.
still trying tho
>>
>>64083980
Listen some more. It took me several listens to that album for it to finally click.
Also don't expect to get any cred from liking Swans anymore after Gira's shenanigans.
They're still pretty good tho and worth getting into.
>>
>>64084168
Get really, really drunk and listen to it alone.
>>
>>64083980
what's your mental health history. i think that affects significantly how people experience this album.
>>
>>64085219
(by this i don't mean 'damn normies can't understand this' or some other autistoid bullshit btw)
>>
>>64085219
Not OP. But had clinical depression for around 5 years, love Soundtracks for the blind, I don't think you have to have a mental disorder to enjoy it though.
>>
American Football hasn't clicked for me after 3 listens. I think the instrumentals are pretty great, but honestly I think it's too "feelsy" and mellow, if that makes sense. Maybe after I'll listen after a breakup and it'll all make sense
>>
>>64084225
so that's why /mu/ likes it
>>
>>64083980
the first thing you have to realize is that it is not a concept album. if SFTB has any story at all it lasts a few random tracks at most. the most popular story being the supposed abused-son-and-mother-relationship one, which The Sound, The Final Sacrifice and YRP 2 (maybe hypogirl also) are part of.
>>
>>64083980
did jarboe ever work for a phone sex company? was that a FBI tape? or did jarboe record it for the track? (the beautiful days, apparently supposed to show the difference between being a young child and a 'dirty' adult)

Why does everyone loves it?
I find it hard to hear... I even like a lot of Zappa albums but this one... I CAN'T
>>
>>64086047
Yes
Her dad worked for the FBI, Prisoner In My Skull was a tape they had of a man they were observing
Lots of the old people tapes are her grandparents
>>
>>64084168
Meaning? Read some of the lyrics and some of it will come to you.

If you can't into SFTB...
For me, it was this one.

I won't say this as a whole, but it kinda helps to know what social alienation feels like.
There's a lot more going on, but like a lot of albums, it's up to what you take out of it.

>>64084056
Try I've Seen Footage a few times over. It's the most accessible track and the most easily understandable as to its meaning.
>>
>>64086920
To Be Kind is closer to your typical Rock album, but it and SFTB are two entirely different beasts.
>>
>>64086926
Get got, the fever, I've seen footage and hacker are all good to start with
>>

I really want to like this album.
>>
>>64084056
Get Got, The Fever, Hacker are the best. Exmilitary was an easier entry point for me.

I'm pretty sure 90% of the praise for this album has to do with its importance in music history and not with how good of an album it actually is.
>>
>>64083980
Stop trying. Listen to Swans Are Dead instead.
>>
>>64088638
That's really interesting, because TVU&N is one of my favorite albums, and I love it just for the music. I think that part of the charm of the album is the imperfection, the raw genuineness of everything in it. It's hard to articulate
>>
>>64086952
SFTB is more all around album. You've got the whole spectrum of music genres. To Be Kind is way more focused and its easier to recognize it as Swans album.

all of david bowie. i dont get what's so great about him someone explain?
>>
>>64083980
I feel like that's one of their more accessible albums... so yeah, you're pretty much fucked. I'd honestly just advise suicide at this point.

DOOM's "iconic flow" is literally eighth notes in 4/4 time with a quarter rest separating each bar.

There is nothing interesting to me about this album, and there's way too many fucking skits.
>>
I just can't get into Volcano.
>>
>>64090418
This for me too.
>>
>>64090418
HAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHA

plz leave.
>>
>>64090418
You're not taking into account the actual lyrics and wordplay.
>>
>>64090236
Guys got a talent for reinventing himself.
>>
>>64088638

I think the production is pretty great. It sounds like an album somebody dug out of their attic. European Son was one of the first noise rock songs to go mainstream.

>>64083980
Get high on drugs or drunk and listen to it late at night with no lights on at max volume.

I prefer The Seer, TBK, and Public Castration, but it's still an amazing album.
>>
>>64083980
It was one of the last Swans albums that clicked for me, took me probably an entire year. But once it clicked it was worth it. Top 3 easily.
>>
>>64092586
>Get high on drugs or drunk and listen to it late at night with no lights on at max volume.

this, too. try listening to it drunk late at night.
>>
if one cant into an album after repeated listening theres an organic failure in ones mind.

on the other hand, one can choose not to get into an album if it makes no sense. the same happened to me with that alum op, but im not gonna sit down and chunk it into my mind only for the sake of it. i wanted to, i tried, it was not my thing, i dropped it. move on.
>>
>>64088638
this
>>64088707 I get what you're trying to say, but it just doesn't click for me neither
>>
>>64088161
This one
>>
>>64083980
Delete Hypogirl, Yum Yab, and MAYBE Volcano from the album and it would be 10/10

I can't really understand why people like Jarboe. She blows
>>
>>64086067
Well, but Zappa just isn't Beefheart. Just can the album, it's atrocious.
>>
>>64085395
I just thought they were really boring at first, now I love them. They will click after a while, anon
>>
>>64088161
Why do you want to like this album? Just accept it's bad.
>>
>>64095371
Hypogirl is an intense female track. It deserves to stay.
>>
unknown pleasures. it's kind of a snoozefest past the first track.
>>
>>64092586
Is The Seer one of their more accessible albums?
>>
>>64095817
For me its TBK
>>
>>64086920
How come? I got into To Be Kind first time I heard it
>>
>>64095371
Holy shit look at these garbage opinions
>>
>>64095397
But its not bad Anon.
>>
>>64095817
>>64096206
Yeah, To Be Kind is kinda their most accesible album from what I've heard.
>>
>>64088161
this music is all about the textures and timbres over the top of very simple basslines. Try and listen to the individual layers, forgetting traditional chord-based music. or listen to 'stop making sense' and you'll get what this album is all about.
>>
>>64086067
Its my favorite album have heard it almost 15 times???
Its just perfect... in all possible ways
>>
>>64090236
Its image... David Bowie in that album, he tries to portrait a Bisexual alien... That is te best album of glam-rock of all Time

>>64090131
Agree

>>64086920
Maybe, OP and you are not into the genre... or simply dont have that taste... To be Kind is one of my favs... Including Soundtracks Of the Blind

>>64088638
underrated post... agree

>>64090418
Wut m8... that album is made for listenting a lot of times... have returned to this a lot... since 4 years ago
>>
>>64098817
children of god, white light from the mouth of infinity and the great annihilator are more accessible but are also completely different kinds of music.

for post rock swans yeah you're right.
>>
>>64091730
>>64099146

Would you guys say that David Bowie's appeal resides in his image, and not in his musical talent?
>>
This
>>
>>64099268
maybe I went too far with my comment, but yes mostly in its image
