Laughing Stock is a beautiful album. The songwriting is superb, but for me what they really nailed was the tone. Everything sounds so light and airy, like a single breath could blow it away. It's the sonic equivalent of an old half forgotten memory
>>64073677
>I'll check some of your hip hop records.

>>64073773
opinion: faust is shitty circus music
justification: scaruffi gave it a 9.5
>>64073818
I agree completely. The quiet intimacy of it creates an alienlike yet familiar atmosphere of peace and calm, and the usage of freely improvised backing instrumentation is entirely unusual yet very fitting. Not only that but Mark Hollis' unusual guitar technique and style creates some utterly out of this world guitar tones that never cease to calm and soothe.
Defintely one of my favorite albums. It combined with Spiderland in the same year was truly a fantastic launchpad for post-rock as a genre.
>>64073863
So you're basing your opinion based off someone else's opinion?
how can you guys develop good taste and how do you guys find new unknown names ? all that last.fm recommended me was the already known names whose music are sp generic. i enjoy it but i feel bad enjoying amateur pleb stuffs.
Pls no bully
>>64073985
>how do you guys find new unknown names
Recs from these threads and RYM genre trawling
Your taste is OK, if a bit generic
>>64073985
I used to use last.fm to get into genres and so on until the site went to shit and pic related started happening in my recc feed. I honestly just lurk /mu/ or post in these kinds of threads now, I hear RYM is still solid though despite the bad rep of its userbase.
If you haven't explored more of Stereolab give Mars Audiac Quintet a listen.
I like everyone.

I believe you've already recced me this album. I haven't checked it out yet unfortunately
>Using various music review websites, pared down my music collection from 10k to 4k.
>Did I overdo it?
>Well, if I do a random playlist the songs are both patrician taste, AND I notice head bobbing, singing/humming/goodvibes feeling, so I must be doing something right.
>I'm not confident about what direction I want to take, but here's what's floating around in my mind:
- I like 80s thrash metal, including the cheesy shit.
- Frank Zappa is becoming a lifelong favorite. He was prolific and perhaps a genius.
- Industrial and industrial metal generally sucks. It's a meme. There aren't many good ALBUMS unless you want some 2deep4u literal noise, which does nothing for me. It's not to my taste.
- I double checked nu metal, and it's more shit than I imagined.
- Due to the sheer volume of music, it's hard to find a single good Beethoven album for beginners.

I like your taste anon :-)
