Explain how it isn't a masterpiece.

lmao
It's a good album but it ain't no masterpiece.
Shoulda picked Hot Rats or Lumpy Gravy instead

There are much, much better post-punk albums out there

objectively wrong; punk produced quite a few masterpieces

Who's Zawinul? Joe Zawinul, the guy who worked with Davis?

Freak Out's use of tape towards the end of the album is what makes it great.

Fair enough. But Zappa went on to really do some fantastic shit with musique concrete later on that outshined Freak Out. You may as well have posted We're Only In It instead.

>>64072789
Oh god not that meme opinion that Pink Flag is "art punk" again
>>
All of you people don't have a background in music history, you are unqualified to talk about an album's place in music history unless you do.
>>64072820
When We're Only In It came out, Tomorrow Never Knows and Mr. Kite already were released. Tape music was in the open officially and so his experiments became less interesting.
>>
>>64072820
it's vanilla punk rock you dork.
>>

>>
>>64072845
Fair enough. What about Lumpy Gravy?

>>64072848
Oh sure go read the lyrics and come back to me

>>64072858
I'm no expert on Zappa but as I mentioned earlier, his three albums are rock-musique and of course Lumpy Gravy
>>
>>64072858
I imagine he's talking about Lumpy Gravy and Uncle Meat. Though again, that was after tape music went mainstream so I'd argue they're not very significant.
>>
>>64072861
MSU and you?
>>
The best Zappa album is Civilization Phaze III desu senpai
>>
>>64072875
>What about Lumpy Gravy
Arguable. Personally I just find it a rather boring release. No real form or anything to it. But then again it's the same with Schaffeur.

It definitely is a more indepth execution than Freak Out but it's also a more classical one.
>>64072883
FSU, that's funny.
You haven't supported your statements.
>>64072901

>>

Freak Out isnt even Top 10 Zappa btw
>>
>>64072918
1. You never explained why a mediocre, unimaginative Post Punk album is better than any of the innovative albums I posted.
2. You didn't explain why Freak Out isn't Top10 Zappa and likely won't.
3. You're probably 16-19 years old.
>>
>>64072883
Your college is a fucking joke
>>
>>64072765
especially the one that goes 1 2 3 4 (guitars start playing 3/4 chord riffs in 4/4)
>>
What do you mean/ expect when you say surpass?
If they're masterpieces in their respective little corners of music, why expect that later works in the same field should have surpassed heights that were defined as the pinnacle by these prior works, and even then why, if no work has surpassed them, claim that this means something's wrong? Perhaps plenty more works come closer now to achieving that level than ever before, but due to the ground being as yet unbroken at the time of their creation, these four works were able to make the no longer existent strides that cemented their place as masterworks.

If you mean they're masterpieces when looking at music as a whole then how do you gauge that, and how do you establish equivalency between 4 vastly different endeavours in such a vague field as "music"; by which guidelines do these four equally stack up as being masterpieces.
>>
>>64072948
>Pink Flag
>mediocre, unimaginative
name one album that sounds even something approximating Pink Flag in 1977 you fucking faggot
>>
>>64072599
How are they 'the original' anything?
>>
>>64072903
If you're talking about pioneering then sure, Freak Out is better. But if you're looking from a direct point of view and ignoring the annoying historical context baggage then his later works are better.
That's my opinion at least

>>64072907
They aren't punk rock at all. The only thing that's punk about it is the composition and instrumentation. In terms of how it's presented and executed it's more logical and well mannered than the average punk rock album

Nothing went wrong, Rock Music's masterpiece came out in 2001 (Ayahuasca). These three other albums are fairly new and they are not to be taken lightly either.

anybody can easily get an education in music history, especially when it comes to popular music. there is a plethora of sources available right here on the internet for everyone. no reason to you think you're the shit just because you had a popular music history class in your university.
>>
>>64073790
So few actually do take advantage of those resources and learn about music from 1000AD-modern day though.

Besides you can learn anything today. Khan Academy.
>>
I sincerely believe that this is rock's masterpiece.
For me its the absolute perfect album.
It's like the ultimate interception of melody with noise
The sounds that are going on are always massively dense, there's so much to explore in the music that you can hear different things every time you play it, even after years of listening. Its like other music is 2D and loveless is 3D.
>>
>>64073532

how is it minimal in anyway

>>
>>64073975
this is quite minimal wouldn't you say?

certainly isn't rock to me.
The album has more of a duality between the rock songs and the minimal ones like this and
>>
>>64074224
WLWH is another of my favourites but I prefer Loveless still. I love both albums a great deal
