What's the most important album of the 21st century?
Why GMGN in particular? What makes it stand out from other Yoshihide projects/collaborations for example?

This, though you can probably assume that OP meant "of the 21st century so far?

Fever to Tell, all I know is Karen O off of new wave themes created something.

albums will be extinct by mid century
>>64071549
Maybe in their traditional form, but some form of extended musical format will probably be around.
>>64071462
Because it's a trio collaboration of three of the best minds and it's an interesting concept album.
NIMB is more listenable though sure.
>>64071475
pleb.
>>64071549
albums have only existed about a half a century so far and are already on the way out
>>64071602
what's going to replace it?
singles only?
>>64071462
I honestly think it because of the cover, which is pretty nice. Just imagine if the cover was instead a picture of a donkeys face and the title was "French Fries are Cool". I don't think anyone would have it as their favorite if that was the case.
>>64071666
it would still be a meme....it would need something more mediocre
>>64071674
No. Absolutely not.

ErstLive 005 has the same line up + Keith Rowe and explores a wider range of sound. I'd put it over GMGN any day.
>>64071738
Yeah but that's a live album.
>>64071748
What's the difference, especially in the setting of free improvisation? It isn't some bootleg recording.
>>64071770
I've found the idea of a "live" "album" to be self defeating. If a music is primarily good in a live setting, then listening to a recording from that setting will not fill the void.
My brothers friends album "Dirty Rotten Baboons"
There is no modern EAI that is important. John Cage alone made every important contribution 60 years ago. How many of you have even hear of Variations VI, Variations VII, etc?
>>64071792
It really depends on numerous factors. ErstLive is recorded by professionals in a small space with the microphones capturing everything a studio recording would.
>>64071829
The idea nowadays isn't new ideas. You can't name a single composition since 1980 that was totally, entirely new. Everything is now synthesis. The greatest classical composer today is Wolfgang Rihm who synthesizes tonal and atonal systems together.
>>64071845
But that's just it: it's a studio recording of a live environment. It's an apple of an orange. A self contradicting statement.
I like Erstwhile, fuck I even bought GMGN, but I don't agree that you can capture live settings on record. That defeats the purpose of a live performance.
>>64071748
I'm pretty sure that GMGN is a live album too, or was at least recorded in 2 sessions over 2 days.
>>64071925
It is not a live album.
>>64071845
Is there anywhere I can watch live EAI performances in this kind of setting instead of 30 meters away from a dimly lit stage?
>>64071738
keith rowe ruins it with his tasteless radio mumblings
>>64072098
not sure
>>64072104
>keith rowe ruins it with his tasteless radio mumblings
>implying the sudden appearance of Lil Jon's Get Low among all the wankery isn't the funniest thing ever
Rowe makes the performance much more memorable.
>>64072196
sure that part was silly and memorable but i really don't think that it works well with others overall. the first hour or so is pretty good but stuff later turns me off.
