I think he is rated about fine, by those who have listened to him, at least.
60s Sun Ra is best Sun Ra, I don't really enjoy his outpot before or after that period.
But anyways, here's my top 5
1. Atlantis
2. The Magic City
3. When Angels Speak of Love
4. Strange Strings
5. The Heliocentric Worlds of Sun Ra, Volume 2
And requesting opinion on his album "Continuation".
100% overrated and about as close to actual poser-core as you can get
underrated as fuck. he has masterpieces and epics all around
then again it's not like the music he helped spawn wouldnt come up itself without him.

Sun Ra is great and he gets a lot of love form the general jazz community. His discography of studio albums is mostly solid but a lot of his live albums are often uninteresting, boring or badly produced.
