This, seriously. It might have been that way back in like 2012 but it's not at all anymore. At most you can say that there's a sizable "left libertarian" presence but there's enough alt-right (or at least enough vocal alt-right) to counterpoint that.

I also think it's funny that so many people claim to dislike reddit so much when the content there is more or less the same as the content here these days. I know plenty of people who still believe in the "4chan is the asshole of the internet" stuff and that browse reddit fairly often but they walk around spouting the exact same memes I see here all the time. They've even admitted to lurking some boards here, mainly /b/, /r9k/, and /gif/ (which kinda surprises me seeing as /gif/ has a lot of fetish porn that I would have assumed would weird most people out).

I got here in '09, and it's interesting following the board's progression.

When I first got here, there was an extreme amount of elitism. It was all about being into the most challenging, underground stuff you can find.
Then, within about a year things changed a bit - the elitism was still there to some extent, but suddenly "tripfagging" became a really big thing, and a bunch of younger users became obsessed with building reputations - for example, there was a guy who'd flood threads he didn't like with gay furry porn, another guy who went from a nice no wave-enthusiast to a retarded vintage German crooner-listener, and a troll who pretended to be a minimal synth-purist brony. That was also the era of waifus, and people would constantly post about Tegan & Sara, Taylor Swift, and K-Pop divas.
Then, for a couple months all of a sudden I guess the waifu fags, tripfags, and elitists must've gotten burned out, because everybody suddenly got really nice. The albums posted also became much more entry-level, but it wasn't bad, maybe just a bit more bland.
And then we got to where we are today. Things didn't get any less entry-level than they were during that nice period, but suddenly everybody got really elitist about really bland, popular albums - i.e. you can post an underground hip hop album, and people will insult you for it and then recommend the Wu Tang Clan's debut. In other words, things have gotten stupider. Also, for some reason 4chan turned into the internet's home for the "alt-right" movement, just a fancy name for racist, populist nationalism with some lip service paid to Austrian economics, and that bullshit has spilled out from /pol/ and /r9k/, it's rightful homes, into everywhere else. It's fucking disgusting. Even on the /lgbt/ board you have gays and trannies making all these bullshit racist statements - sorry fags, but if you're gonna put down other races, then I stop sympathizing with your whining about homophobia.
