the melodies are all lacking in structure/creativity present in other AnCo albums. The instrumentals are also weak, with the exception of doggy you get generic guitar riffs. The vocals are ok, but having "ok"vocals in the anco discography puts you back. despite it's short tracklist, it contains filler (no, being a long song doesn't mean it's filler, visiting friends is over 12 minutes and at no point does it feel like filler.)

That's because CS is AnCo only album that isn't at all pop. It's a folksy acoustic drone, and your viewing it from a standpoint as if it were pop. You aren't supposed to be enthralled by the sound, you're supposed to get lost in it. It's sort of like acoustic ambient music in that regard. I don't really know what your definition of weak is, but I think the guitar playing is fine, considering the fact that it's meant to sound sort of meandering. If you look at CS as you would the rest of AnCo's albums you won't like it. Just relax and listen to it again

I consider Winter's Love to be one of my favorite songs of all time, as it elicits an extreme emotional response from me. However, We Tigers is just so uppity, and all the vocal layers make listening to it with headphones an almost other-worldy experience. Leaf House and Who Could Win A Rabbit I would also consider as my favorites from this beautiful record.
