Is this good?
Also what's the best track
>>64054257
>>64054412
Yes
The Same Deep Water as You
>>64054257
its one of the greatest albums ever made
>>64054505
i respect this decision but id have to say i disagree. My personal favorite being untitled followed by disintegration
I used to think it was the best album in the world - it's pretty good still
I'm partial to Homesick as the best track
An amazing record. So dreary and beautiful
Can't say I was thrilled
Very.
>>64054412
Not often I say a single is the best song on an album but Fascination Street is fucking impeccable.
Very good album, although my favorite by them is Faith
My favorite track from this album is Lullaby
>>64054257
The real masterpiece of the 80s.
My favorite is Fascination Street.
>>64054257
Are there any albums/bands that sound super synthy and dreamy like the opening track of this album?
>>64054257
It's to The Cure what the black album was to Metallica. It appealed more to casuals and alienated their more core fan base. A lot of band wagon fans because of this album.
>>64055068
New Order - Procession too.
>>64054257
yes
>>64055180
Thanks I'll check it out, I was already a fan of Procession.
>>64055145
Ehhhh this is a really big reach. The Black Album was the first time Metallica simplified their formula and went fully mainstream while Disintegration was in many ways a return to form for The Cure who had already been fully mainstream for a while. The diehards who loved Faith and Pornography instantly preferred Disntegration over the previous few albums.
>>64055416
This. The label didn't want to release it because it was much less commercial than the latest stuff they had been releasing. Hell, it has huge ass intro tracks, slow, lush instrumentals tahat take their time warming up, and pretty lengthy songs compared to their previous stuff.
Last Dance best song
>>64055416
Definitely this. The stuff between Pornography and Disintegration was progressing into more psychedelic pop territory. Compared to those records, Disintegration was basically a return to basics, but with more musical know-how than before. If any Cure album appeals to "casuals", it's probably The Head on the Door.
>>64055744
That's my second favorite and grossly underrated IMO. It, Fascination Street, and Prayers For Rain are my holy trinity on the album.
>>64054257
Yes its their best album
>>64054412
Lullaby
>>64055855
Lullaby's the one song on the album that throws me. It's good on its own but I don't know why it's on the album. There's a fairly consistent theme of distance and heartbreak throughout the album but Lullaby comes in with this silly spiderman tale that has nothing to do with anything else.
>>64055416
yeah, it's kind of a natural progression from Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, except a lot better and for long time fans a return to form after the relative poppiness of Japanese Whispers, The Top and The Head on the Door
I became a fan of the Cure a little later when Wish came out (I was 16 then) and at least then the equivalent of the Black Album and it's fans where people who only knew Cure for their poppy singles like Friday I'm In Love and Disintegration was definitely part of the "good stuff"
I do remember Lullaby being overplayed on MTV when it came out, but still if anything the Black Album casual equivalent for the Cure were "fans" who only knew the singles
>>64055068
The Chameleons maybe?
Why don't you just listen to it, jesus christ.
>>64054257
>>64054412
It's the greatest album from the 80s and one of the best albums ever, so yes.
Best track is Disintegration
Love this album. I'd like to get more into these guys. What should I listen to next?
>>64057457
I need people to form opinions for me
>>64057732
Wish and Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me next - together they define a certain period with a particular sound for the Cure
after that Seventeen Seconds, Faith and Pornography for their more minimalist goth period of the early 80's
after that the rest, I feel like anything after Wish can be safely ignored, though
>>64055963
what do people think of Wish these days, anyway?
as said before, it was the album that got me into the Cure back in the day and I still think it's one of their best - it was pretty popular when it came out - although many people judged it by the popular singles High and Friday I'm In Love that don't really represent the album that well, but I remember there being a period where people were generally like "just ignore everything after Disintegration"
Cut to To Wish Impossible Things to End is one of my favorite track sequences to endi an album:

Plainsong is the best imo. Those chimes and then BOOM
why don't you just fucking listen to it you idiot?
>>64054257
Yes.
>>64054412
Homesick
>>64054257
one of the best albums ever imo, please listen to it
>>64054257
extremely. personal fav at the moment is Pictures of You but that will likely change
>>64054257
Duh.
>>64057983
I highly enjoy that album too dawg.
>>64057983
I listened to it once a couple years ago and thought it was good, but it didn't leave a lasting impression. I put it on the other day cos I'm going to see the Cure next month and was instantly hooked by Open, the album feels like a blend of Disintegration's production and song structure with the pop sensibilities of their mid-80s work. Lost Wishes is pretty fucking great too.
I consider it their last great album, I'm not too fond of Bloodflowers right now but that might change with repeated listening, and 4:13 Dream is alright but the mixing/production leaves a lot to be desired.
>>64058811
in fact, I'm gonna hop aboard rn and agree with a lot of anons ITT and say Lullaby is at least one of the best. the whole album really. just listen to it OP. when you're in the right mood.
>>64054257
Plainsong.
Yes.
Listen to it and decide for yourself you autistic faggot!
>>64055068
every "indie" hipster synthpop band with a qt singer ever?
>>64054412
My favorites are Lullaby, Disintegration, and Untitled.
>>64054257
Yes, easily.
>>64055068
>>64057162
I thought Chameleons immediately as well, particularly their second record. (best record)
>>64057983
It's good. It's like a more concise version of Kiss Me, most similar to Head on the Door. In-Between Days and Doing the Unstuck are two of my favorite Cure songs.
What do people think of Bloodflowers? I genuinely adore that record, but it's not one that gets much love.
>>64055145
It's more like their Death Magnetic. Disintegration was somewhat, at least thematically, of a return to form of Faith/Pornography after Head On the Door/Kiss Me, although was still appealing to the people who liked those albums so not really a return to form.
>>64061826
People loved Bloodflowers when it came out. It was being called "Their best since Disintegration" by everyone.
