Is record store day just a giant scam /mu/ or is it legitimately worth it? I'm contemplating if I should go since I've never gone. Additionally I've looked through the catalogue and there's literally nothing I want. Should I even make the effort to go there nevermind early?

Yes, it's a giant scam.
Participating stores are pushed into buying large amounts of stock in the hopes that they get enough of the records that people will actually want.
But not only are the prices to stores marked up ridiculously high but they are also unable to return stock, so inevitably after every RSD smaller stores are left with piles of shitty reissue records that nobody wants.
Also, it's impossible to get anything pressed this time of year because the companies that do pressings are all busy pumping out fucking U2 or Mumford and Sons.

I think vinyl in general is just a giant cashgrab ESPECIALLY if the artists is memefork famous or famous in general. I don't really care all that mich about the sound superiority complex as I see the cost far outweighing the enjoyment of the music but for some reason I just want to experience RSD idk it's weird
