I've had my fair share of interactions with various sub-sub-cultures of punks. Crusties, skins(whose company was actually more tolerable than the company of the crust punks who were, in my experience, truly abominable human beings with no redeeming features), bro meatheads, Tumblrpunks whose idea of punk music is shit like Titus Andronicus and Iceage, shrill riot grrrls etc.
Pretty much all of them were fucking idiots who didn't know anything about anything, true subcultural living waste. Plenty of them(especially among the crusties and feminists; the only crews which I knew which were mostly blue-collar were the skins) were sheltered rich kids who could renounce their lifestyle and crawl back to mom and dad the second shit got a bit too real.
As far as the famed punk "attitude" went, they only let it rip when they had strength in numbers on their side. When they were on their own or outnumbered they were utter pussies.

There's people who've been living that life for years, you can live in a squat, get all of your shopping from exchanges, get all of your food from dumpster dived restaurants, go to all of your music in squatted venues etc. Its the definition of counter culture, and it's still going strong.

Punk started to become pussified in the early 90s when it became acceptable to be one.
Before that, if you were dressing punk, you either fought, got good at running or rarely ventured out alone. Rednecks, jocks, cops, blacks, even metal kids would all give no end of shit and possibly jump you. Sure soe kids whined about it 'waaaah I'm treated different because I made a very dilberate decision to be different" but those kids usually listened to The Smiths more than Black Flag anyhow so they were pretty much the exception that proved the rule. Real punks to all the abuse as validation they were doing something right because everyone hated them.
I the 90's the scene kinda split into 'chaos punks' (aka gutter punks or beer punks) and 'peace punks'. Squatters and crusties could be either but one was defined by drunken not give a fuck jack assery while dumpster diving McDonalds and the other by whining and wearing stupid canvas boots and eating at Food Not Bombs.
I remember seeing Destroy at Gilman street and they stopped the show because the pit and lectured the crowd on 'masculine bullshit and the patriarchy'. It wasn't too long after that a buddy of mine (accidentally he says) broke Jello's leg there because the pacifist idiot jumped into a fight my buddy was in
The thing is GG Allin style self destruction can't last forever while Jello Biafra style whining goes on forever (even if it doesn't it feels like forever) so pretty much most of the chaos punks have OD'd been locked up or hit by trains, while those stupid healthy vegans are still droning on and on
