I've got some albums that I could only find online in .flac and I want to convert them to mp3. What's /mu/s recommended method/program?
flacsquisher

if you're not afraid of the command line use beets with the convert plugin. beets is a standalone/optionally mpd compatible library organizer, it'll move/rename/retag with tags from musicbrainz has quite a few plugins and nice options, you have to write the config file basically from scratch but it's simple key:value pairs there's a good guide in the beets wiki for it. I just wanna see the program get more love

I just use lame v3.99
works through foobar, you don't even need to install anything, you convert it using foobar.

I second this, foobar's conversion options are good enough - you only need the codec packs for codecs that aren't bundled with foobar due to copyright issues

Make sure you have a compelling reason to convert to MP3. Better to keep them as FLAC otherwise. No need to lose quality unless you really have to. Also, if you must convert, can you convert to AAC instead? It's a better option compared to MP3.

hey man, I got some audio crystals, you wanna buy some?

No. Better put -v0. It's the better and more efficient alternative.
