Many of these counties are too small to really have a music tradition. Vatican city isn't a real country and places like Andorra are more political enclave. Whereas regions not recognised as countries such as Catalonia or the Basque region have a more distinct cultural and musical tradition.

Yep, I agree. This is why I've italicized the ones I'm considering discarding.
Of course cultural regions don't align with political borders even for the larger countries, so the whole thing is, in some ways, pretty stupid. But it's fun!
