Ignore Scaruffis lists and ratings. He'll call something a masterpiece and give it a 6.He'll call another album an embarrasment and give it a 5. If you're a standartd autist it will drive you mad.
His "reviews" (sometimes they are just descriptive blurbs) are great, but ignore the numbers.

apparently his lists and opinions on a lot of films arent really his and they belong to trusted colleagues. theres no way a person can listen to that much music, watch that many movies, read that many books, all the while taking frequent hiking trips and being a very active member of the silicon valley community. not to mention he's written a bunch of books.

i believe this is true of his film writing, but his music writing really is all him. he works only rarely and doesnt waste time doing stupid shit on the internet or watching television. i think he just has huge amounts of free time and manages his time very well. also he is old.

his 9/10 masterpieces are masterpieces in the grand scheme of rock/popular music, based on his lists including all of the albums he deems masterpieces.
he often says that 8/10, or even 7.5/10 albums are the masterpieces of particular artists, and I think anything 7.5 or higher is a masterpiece to some degree to scaruffi.
