Have you listened to anything else of theirs? I'm slowly working my way through their (huge) catalog and I've yet to be disappointed.

man some parts of ulysses are like beyond this world fantastic but at the same time some parts are so uninteresting
what do you think
and have you read portrait of the artist as a young man? i've been meaning to read it for some time but it's just so difficult to get into joyce without just reading all day. like it's not something you read on the bus for 10 minutes

i started reading Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man on a long train ride last summer and it's been sitting on my dresser for as long as i've been at college

haven't opened it in a while
>>
>>63906864
Joyce is absolutely worth the effort. If you're struggling to get into the first few chapters of Portrait, know that the prose gets a lot easier as you go on.
>>
>>63906935
what did you think of it?
i read the first page at the library a week ago and just felt that i wasn't up for it at all, i feel like i've gotta have a completely different mindset when i read his work. shit's challenging yo

>>63906981
oh nice, might get on it after i finish the stuff i'm currently going thru

listen to Roxy Music - Country Life
>>63906864
it's meant to be uninteresting! disinterest is a feeling too. joyce hated writing shit like oxen of the sun as much as we hate reading it
i haven't but that's understandable that you haven't gone through it. the back half is notoriously a trudge
try Nguyên Lê - Saiyuki

How's that Arto album? I'm all lovely feelings for Noon Chill, would I like that one?
>>
>>63907184
oh shit, that's cool. i can't imagine how weird it would be to just bump into him one day doing grocery shopping. would be surreal. i saw them with dragged into sunlight, who were absolutely incredible but a totally different kind of intensity. gtt felt like watching a horrific snuff sex rape film with no footage at all. you don't realise how incredible mories' vocals are until you witness it up close. the guy can do anything that involves harsh vocals. my mate tried to get up to the front and tell him that all the dread is in his top 20 of all time but he slipped away really quick. didn't seem like the kinda guy keen on sticking around for too long.
>>
>>63907246
I have. It's got some really good sound going most of the time but the tracks themselves feel patchy and inconsistent, especially structurally. Cain is a great af track tho, they got it right on that one.

>>
>>63907310
yeah from the music I'd feel like I have a better chance bumping into him buying nails, chains and bleach than bread, orange juice and digestive biscuits, but hey. That collab was easily my AOTY from last year so I'm pretty damn jealous of you getting to see em.

>didn't seem like the kinda guy keen on sticking around for too long

I'm not at all surprised desu, doesn't seem like the extraverted normie type at all.
>>
>>63907186
hah yeah i really felt like giving up somewhere halfway thru oxen of the sun
like it starts out pretty decent and some of it i can understand but jesus christ it becomes such a mess after a while
the fact that it comes directly after one of my favourite parts of the book really is a shame, it feels like such a nosedive

>>63907135
yeah music for church cleaners is hella cool, you should check it out
from my collage i think you'd enjoy dead can dance, puce mary, body sculptures and the hilliard ensemble
and maybe kyo, it's some pretty fun experiments and little noodlings, enjoyable.
and you'd dig communions because i can't imagine anyone hating them. start with either ep they're both good

ha. not gonna lie he looks like the kinda guy who could rock a ball gag well. in a nice way. dis didn't actually play anything from that record, it was all from hatred for mankind. gtt stuck to abyss of longing throats and all the dread magnifience from what i could tell.
yeah i think that goes without saying. i'm not sure if the women that was playing with them is mories' wife but they seemed to stick together most of the night, so at least he has somebody to go home with.

+Songs from the big chair
I read Dubliners last year and loved it. Tried to read Finnegan s wake and failed. I have portrait of a young man on my shelf, it's in my infinite backlog. I think if you're having trouble reading Ulysses, try reading something easier first and come back to it later. That's what has worked for me recently.

nah i didn't have too much trouble with ulysses
i've read it twice and enjoyed it both times
it's just some passages that are tedious as hell but i try my best to not get discouraged
i might read dubliners somewhere down the line
books are hard it's such a time consuming pastime. i'm too spoiled by music being so easily digested
>>

what do you think of that Beck album? imo good but not my favorite of his
>>
>>63907893
>>63907910
Yeah I have, I actually think Boku recommended it to me
It's really interesting, the layering and repetition is exciting and tense, there's a sense of beauty but there's always this looming dread hanging over it, controlling the pitch and rhythm, building to this dissonance, and becoming unnatural and scary
Reminds me of Shostakovich

Very good stuff, I recommend it to anyone into Minimalism
>>
>>63908063
>Do you have a favorite book? Bugskull looks cute what's it about
right now i think my favorite book is Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut i guess

it's been a long time since i've read that though, and portrait of the artist as a young man would probably be my favorite if i would get around to finishing it

Bugskull is lo-fi indie folk with some musique concrete stuff goin on with some of the songs. it's really relaxing and comfy
