Is it lame to have musical idols or role models? I really love this man.
That's the only way to start making meaningful music unless you're one of the greatest geniuses of all time
I have a music idol/role model for pretty much every genre. Consider me the worlds lamest

Why do you say that? Just curious
You want to be careful of it really, it's a man with a trumpet

Every musician has influence. To just create something without anything ever having influenced you would be insanely difficult

Having a model focuses your own concept and gives you something to build on, and if you try to just work on your own you're missing inspiration at best and reinventing the wheel at worst (punk band: we don't need to learn about music, proceeds to use the same 3 chords at the same tempo for 50 records in a row)

there's a difference between being influenced and having a musical role model
>>63904115
How so? Does a role model not influence you?
>>63904129
Yes but you can be influenced by someone without considering them a role model
>>63904145
I agree with that completely, I didn't mean to come off otherwise

it's like the relation between a square and rectangle.
