It's mediocre and easily one of his weakest albums.
I hope it's better than Ravedeath considering Ravedeath was one of the best albums ever released

A little cleaner bit-wise and the gaps between tracks (that made the leak difficult to stomach, for me at least) have been closed
Didn't blow me away or anything but he is releasing a soundtrack this year as well which I'm guessing is more in the same vein as Virgins and Ravedeath since this album seems like more of a distraction than anything else.
I'm going to go ahead and make the bold claim that he saved his best material for the soundtrack.

Ravedeath had higher emotional peaks, but overall this is my favorite of his.
It's not horrible, and it is actually my AOTYSF, but it just lacks what I like in Tim Hecker's music. The beautiful subtlety and explosive dense noisey-ness isnt as prominent. There are a lot of cool textures and Im okay with with the vocal stuff but it wasn't implemented as well as the pianos on Virgins or the organs on Ravedeath or the granular samples on Haunt Me.
What is actually upsetting is that his next album will be in 2-3 years, that is unless he's not gonna release it at all, due to leak.

I'm a huge Hecker fan but just couldn't get into it as much as his other albums. There are some great songs (Violet Monumental, Castrati Stack) but those don't seem to recognize their full potential, and the combination of more synths and the chopped-up vocals is kind of a mess at times.
If this is another major stylistic shift for him then he may still be finding his feet. I predict the next album will be better.
i really dug this. the vocals add instantly accessible human emotion to the music, where the choppiness of the mix of vox/synths remind me of clouds wizzing in front of the sun.
there's so much going on, from a technical perspective alone this record is at least a strong 7. i need more time with it, but the first few listens have always left me wanting more.
except for the first track. i hate the first track. it's jarring and annoying with no reward for your patience.

I wouldn't go that far, most people I know can't get into this music, but I do agree that his music isn't outright hostile to general unknowing audience like some other genres. So I think even Fantano can honestly appreciate Hecker without pretending.

its not so much about understanding it on a deeper level but actually willing to be an attentive listener and if all you listen to is rap and dubstep you have to have an open mind and get acquainted with music having no rhythm. Other than that yeah I can't see how somebody would dislike Hecker. But he does place some requirements on the listener which make him unviable for most top40 listeners.
