Self titled was my shit. Good time in my life. Plus the songwriting on that was pretty creative for modern radio rock. Not really a fan of anything else though.

Synyster Gates is actually a really fucking talented guitarist. He can play so many different styles really well, it's a shame he's wasting it by playing that mememetal.

One of my favorite bands. Listened to them from the beginning. Hail to the King was garbage with the exception of Planets and Coming Home. Really looking foward to their new album because the teaser and demo leak sounds amazing.

Most metalheads and /mu/tants are too afraid and insecure to admit they're decent have plenty of good moments. Not so much as of late, but a lot of their earlier work was fantastic. Pretty much the only original, DECENT work to come out of the metalcore genre.
Incredibly musically inclined and talented, all of them. They write lots of musically complex things, dabbling in a lot of everything, from weird time signatures to atonal music made accessible.
It's a shame they limit themselves to metal because I'm sure they could make some very interesting music if they gave metal a break and worked uninhibitedly.
Great musicians and rife with talent and genuine musical understanding, limited by the type of music they began to head down, ultimately resulting in decent amount of mediocrity, but still a very decent amount of good moments and materials.
STST, Waking the Fallen, and City of Evil are worth listening to and definitely have some quality.

Loved gunslinger. That intro makes you forget that its also the verse and first chorus. Then that goddamn main riff kicks in. Super simple but heavy.
Brompton cocktail was pretty dope too. Doesn't get as much love but that shit ruled. Good rock album.

Coming Home was a horrible song. Just a pop hit. Thought Requiem was significantly better. First guitar solo in metal that I heard in a long time that felt musical and a part of the song.

They were one of the bands that got me into music when I was younger. I enjoyed the complexities of some of their music and their skills as I got older and more musically inclined. I've been listening since Waking The Fallen and City of Evil when I was in elementary school up to now. I enjoy most of their stuff except most of Hail to the King (but I do enjoy some of the tracks). Their style got me to branch out into jazzy and progressive music all of the way to death metal both old and new. Synyster Gates was also the reason I first picked up a guitar and Shadows was the reason I wanted to sing. I still find Syn as a huge inspiration (ignoring the blatant Sad But True ripoff with This means War).
tl;dr they got me into music and molded me into who I am today.

with the exception of Waking the Fallen and Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, both of mediocre, Avenged Sevenfold is painfully generic pop rock/metal. Whenever someone says they like them i completely disregard their opinion on music entirely, same with Weezer, Grimes, Led Zepplin, Metalica, Pantera, Coheed and Cambria and Nine Inch Nails.
That's a mature way of handling life you got going for you. God knows autists would rather feel smug than try to connect with another person in any way
