Release another decent mostly lame album and have everyone suck your dick and say it's the greatest ever cause your name is Kendrick Lamar
>>
I doubt he will, but I would love to see him experiment with his sound and even his song topics. I really hope he doesn't stay on "my life, my struggles" forever, but he probably will
>>
>>63875030
He definitely will stay on that, and as popular as he is he probably won't switch up the sound too much. It's what sells.
>>
>>63874204
Fuck

Viper colab
>>
>>63875174
To me good kid was far more commercially oriented than to pimp a butterfly. Thus, this implies he is putting more emphasis on making what he feels is good music, rather than what sells. So to me he seems to be experimenting with his sound, however i will concede that he does so within the realm of commerciality. But the emphasis is where my point lies, and masturbates with cold hands. why oh why are his hands so cold? please answer me this.

tfw don't understand
>>
>>63874204
Only like two of those are actually worth listening though
>>
>>63874204
does this mean that his next album will be an unfocused, overlong mess?
>>
>>63878147
1: mostly poor album with good highlights
2: great album that demonstrates the potential of the artists but not necessarily essential
3: masterpiece that uses popular song structure and "in" sounds (i.e. 90s alt rock and 10s hip hop production styles) but stands out with fantastic songwriting and musicianship
4: artist follows their masterpiece with an unprecedented change in mood, lyric topics, and style/genre inspiration. Met with some confusion/disappointment but mostly praised highly
5: a release made up of reworked demos and b-sides from 4, greatly appreciated and enjoyed by fans but not necessarily essential
>>
I really dont see whats great about Kendrick Lamar. The only tolerable song of his is The Recipe. Apart from that its just like he is some random blck guy shouting gospel verses on the street. No rythm no flow nothing
>>
>>63878460
so whats the general opinion of Radioheads next album, what should we expect from king kenny
>>
I don't know. I'd honestly be very surprised if he manages to top either GKMC or TPAB though.
>>
>>63878699
>no flow
Nice b8
>>
I'm not trying to be a dick-rider, I really didn't like good kid, maad city, and I especially didn't like music publications inaugurating it as a hip-hop masterpiece so quickly.

But TPAB blew me out of the water. No other hip-hop album is as cohesive, as varied, and as focused as it, except maybe MBDTF. It's nearly a perfect album, with infinite relistenability and immense depth.

Before you say I'm a troll or blatantly wrong, why don't you provide some counterpoints? I'm genuinely interested in hip-hop of this caliber.
>>
>>63874204
Eh. This is a stretch.
>>
>>63879417
I honestly felt the complete opposite of you.

I thought GKMC was his masterpiece, while TPAB was his "Grammy bait" album. It was still good.
>>
>>63879207
next is Hail To The Thief, which is generally not regarded as one of their best, although it still is pretty good and has some strong highlights. It's biggest forte is it's ability to combine the styles of straightforward rock of OKC and the dark electronics of Kid A. So maybe from Ken we can expect a poppier sound that integrates only a few elements of jazz and soul? somewhere in the middle stylistically of GKMC and TPAB
>>
>>63879417
>cohesive
not in terms of quality
>>
>>63879417
Honestly, I hated TPAB album when it came out. It checked all the cheesy conscious rapper clichés. Now I love it but I don't rate at as high as most. Certainly nowhere near any full length solo album from Yeezy.

Socially
>White people telling me it's poetry of the streets. It's ok for a black man to be smart but only if I can look down at him/his friends and family for their backwards hood ways. God forbid a black kid from suburbia has a brain, then he's competing and beating me directly. At least with the thug intellectual I can use the "I've never had to deal with that adversity" line. Only ok for blacks to be good if they stay in their lane.
>Hood voyeurism. Poverty porn. Look how horrible life is for those poor people, here's a medal for exposing the horrible truth of your people. It's like the only movies about India that'll ever get any critical acclaim are about rape/slums. Like the entire culture and thousands of years of history/art don't have anything positive to contribute that's worthy of recognition.

Sonically
>Jazz. Black culture which makes it acceptable as intellectual.
>Funk. Black culture which makes it acceptable as the proper music with instruments, not that brainless electronic music stuff.

Minor Annoyances
>Racism. Black person calling out other blacks. Makes it ok for white people to say it too.
>>
>>63879417
>infinite relistenability
I'm with you anon. I really like GKMC on first listen, but coming back to it was never quite as good.

TPAB was quite the opposite, underwhelmed me at first, but it just got better and better and better. I think I even like it more than anything Kanye has done.

>>63874130
probably another year or two of relevance then fading into obscurity.

now that he had his first 3 albums is something going to happening to kendrick that makes him go crazy?

(continued)

I don't really care for narrative/story telling albums either. I think a musical album is one of the worst mediums for storytelling.

As far as just forgetting all context and enjoying the music, during 2015 I genuinely listened to ASAP Rocky's album more often, from start to finish and loved it. I struggled to get through TPAB. Only songs I bump regularly are Blacker The Berry, King Kunta and Untitled. I play i, these walls, alright, free here and there but overall I can take it or leave it.

I think a lot of other rappers have tackled the issues he tackles better. Musically it was fun in a throwback way but definitely not all that creative or interesting to listen to.

If GKMC is a 9/10 record or even a 10, this is a 7, maybe 8 for me.

Though I feel as if a lot of people feel like they have to say this is a 10/10 just because it deals with such heavy issues. And in fairness he has a nuanced perspective.
>>
>>63879207
Hail to the Thief is an album that lacks focus and cohesion but has great songs. Musically it has more acoustic guitar and less bloops than Kid A and Amnesiac. Topically it is a protest album, criticizing consumerism and the Bush administration.

Is that an alternate cover for 808s? That is really fucking cool looking.

don't understand this criticism. Should black artists only cater to white audiences?
