As a big hip hop fan, even at its most gimmicky and even untalented artists, Childish Gambino takes the Shit cake. Not only does he have the worst ear for beats in hip hop, but he consistently goes on the laziest, easiest to flow over beats to create a pseudoflow that braindead fans consider "good" because the beat is so easy. He relies on image more than ANYONE in hip hop, using the "o look guys I'm riding the fence between the black and white communities" shtick in a disgustingly distasteful way.
He makes no attempt at internal rhyme, and his inflection is flat and unevocative. He's also cringey enough to warrant a punch in his pandering wanna-be conscious face. People think he has a lot to say, but outside of a few witty punchlines that he has borrowed from his own fucking comedy before, his storytelling is inane and not detailed, and never makes an interesting or thought provoking point.
He is the epitome of shitty cancer rap.

of all my arguments, that's the most valid one to attack for sure, but if you listen to the drum patterns in most of songs they are astonishingly simplistic, and not in the boom bap sense either because especially on Kauai they are dressed like trap style but really only create a simplistic, boring beat, and the synths all bounce in line with it to keep from throwing him off. Definitely not my big reason for hating the guy, and hardly an attack compared to my other statements, just something I've noticed

It's not. I never said it had to be. My point was that he tries to be thought-provoking and witty, and fails miserably at it. Sure he's not a serious artist, but his corny dime a dozen punchlines are too cringeworthy to bear, at least for me.

Listen to that shitty outro from that one song on Camp where he talks about being in love with a girl at summer camp or whatever. Maybe the worst attempt at being "deep" I've ever seen by a professional artist in any medium (music, film, etc.).

I don't even think he's that bad of a lyricist and ejoy a decent portion of his music but his flow is godawful because he puts no effort into it (it's part of his totally laidback and sad persona, which is so totally cool and not at all embarrassing)
